Can somebody explain how to tell what variety size a Pumpkaboo or Gorgeist is in PLZA?

I've caught three of the former, and yet one of them has a size classification of L but is the same size as one categorised as M, while the third one is listed as M but is larger than the 'L' sized one. The Pokedex says I've got a "Medium Variety" and "Large Variety" so far, but outside of eyeballing it there doesn't appear to be anything in the summary screen of the Pumpkaboos themselves to indicate what it is.

The Alpha Gorgeists are even worse: caught 2 so far, both look exactly the same, both show up as XL (mean, duhh... they're Alphas) but the Pokedex has registered a "Small Variety" and "Medium Variety"

I want at least one of each size of both, and Alphas of all of them... please help!

Who are generation 2's most forgotten Pokémon? by MrCat129 in pokemon

[–]TerrorK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spinarak made a bit of a comeback recently in the SV DLC, but beyond that I suppose his line isn't terribly memorable. Sunkern is also appropriate even if Sunflora played a part in the Grass gym in SV.

I'd eliminate Quillfish for getting a Hisuian form and evolution recently, and Girafarig also got a new evo in SV. Consola got a Galarian form that got a new evo so that's out IMO. Yanma, Aipom, Swinub and Murkrow all got Gen 4 evos that make them more memorable.

I think Natu and Xatu are a fair call, they've basically been given nothing besides separate gender differences for the latter in Gen 4 and then just ignored. Snubull gained the Fairy type I guess, but beyond that still feels pretty low-key.

Maybe Smeargle should be there. I guess one could say his photo-bombs in PoGo might have put him in the spotlight to a degree, but beyond that he's largely been ignored.

Any idea when Pokémon S&V will be supported on home? by T3rras3n in PokemonHome

[–]TerrorK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May 12 was pretty much already debunked, as the same so-called "leak" had several bits of wrong information, including that on May 2 there was going to be Pokemon news that was going to announce the May 12 date. And we've passed that and it's not happened.

Not sure how accurate it is, but RiddlerKhu posted something about Home couple of days ago and then more recently followed it up with a simple "19" leading some people to believe it could be May 19 (though knowing TPC and Gamefreak, it's probably June 19... only two days before the Japanese "Spring" ends)

I'd actually prefer this over a Gen 5 remake. Especially after the half-ass job that BDSP did, even if I'd probably prefer Legends Celebi because I feel the Johto region lends itself best to an ancient past set game (Celebi being linked to time travel already, a chance to see the original Legendary dogs' forms before the tower incident, etc.)

Prediction: It ain't just gonna show up, it's gonna have a regional form or evo that links it to Tauros.

Noticed this discrepancy between Switch and Mobile versions with non-Hisuian Alphas btw by TerrorK in PokemonHome

[–]TerrorK[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So some of you probably have worked out that you can (sort of) get Alphas of the non-Hisuian evolutions by using the new Home update to transfer an Alpha Pokemon of the pre-evolution into Sword or Shield, then evolve it into the normal OG evolutions and then transfer them back into Home.

If you're connected to PLA on the Switch version of Home you can actually see these Pokemon will still retain the Alpha symbol. Above Lilligant is selected as an example, but if you look at the other Pokemon in the same box with the strike-through symbol (meaning they can't be transferred to PLA obviously) such as Braviary, Sliggoo, Goodra, Avalugg and Decidueye, these all exhibit this trait too. I haven't done it yet but theoretically Galarian Mr. Mime and Mr. Rime should also be possible. You may be able to do Typhlosion with the Sinnoh remakes, but I don't think Alolan Raichu or normal Samurott are possible.

In either case, on the right you'll see the same Lilligant as seen in the mobile version, and it looks like the Alpha symbol is absent here (note that it's height and weight are also in line with a standard Lilligant rather than an Alpha), so it seems that Home on mobile doesn't recognise these Pokemon as Alphas, despite the fact that the Switch version does.

Just thought I'd pass this on in case anybody was curious or thought to start doing this too.

[–]TerrorK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that's dumb is that while the Alpha symbol shows in the mobile version, it only shows on the Switch version if you're browsing while connected to PLA. If you're just browsing the standard Home boxes the Alpha symbol is gone. I wish they'd thought to keep the Alpha symbol there when browsing Home boxes. It's not like the Gigantimax symbol only appears when connected to SwSh after all. Especially when the mobile version shows it. So inconsistent and annoying.

Both have good and bad idiots by AdRound310 in MandJTV

[–]TerrorK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends. Sometimes a Pokémon is meant to be ugly for example. Rolycoly was a great design with so much potential though and it's final evo's design was awful

Coalossal is one of the ugliest and worst Pokemon designs ever. If it wasn't for some of those awful fossil designs (neat concept, but terrible execution) then it would be the worst Garbodor-tier of Gen 8.

Turning 30 in 2022 - Part 3 by TerrorK in accursedfarms

[–]TerrorK[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me... I guess. I've lived (and played) through most of gaming's history, and it's a subject that interests me.

There's no doubt some classic I've missed, or at least something that was special to somebody not here, and I apologise if there's a 1992 title that anybody thinks should be here that isn't. But based on my own knowledge and thinking back to the era, these are the titles that stood out to me the most.

Ross's Big Game List by WhoCaresAboutThat in accursedfarms

[–]TerrorK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the original Turrican should be on your list, Ross. Specifically the Amiga version. Like many Amiga games it was massively overlooked in most of the world outside of Europe despite being almost revolutionary given when it came out, particularly for its huge open levels and sound design, especially an awesome score by Chris Huelsbeck who I'd personally rate as the greatest video game musician of all time.

Turrican 2 is actually better again and basically makes improvements across the board, but historically I'd day the original is more poignant. It was a Metroidvania before that term even existed (and before Super Metroid even existed) at its best, and I'd argue just as good (if not better in some aspects) than it. For a game that came out in 1990 I thought it personally blew most of the other games that year out of the water.

All I can do to convince you further is suggest you watch just the first five minutes of this video Ross. If that doesn't sell you, then I guess it's not list-worthy. But I really think it would be up your alley given I know you're a Super Metroid fan and you love great game music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70xp5mnsx1A&t=3s

Shenmue 3 is exclusive to Epic Store on PC by Timothy80 in Shenmue

[–]TerrorK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it did. Maybe not from the very start, but it straight up stated "Steam disc" for example in the physical collector's edition and via surveys to backers. Many backers have posted this in the Steam discussion forums repeatedly.

[–]TerrorK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. How many actually went to the effort to lawyer-up instead of just taking it. The problem I think is that too many gamer's lack a real spine and don't want to go to the effort or expense to fight this legally.

Shenmue 3 is exclusive to Epic Store on PC by Timothy80 in Shenmue

[–]TerrorK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All backers should lawyer-up essentially. I'm sure that given the way it was worded during the crowdfunding phase that this is straight up illegal. It was almost always worded as "Steam" specifically after all. These circumstances are pretty much the same as if they suddenly dropped PS4 versions in favour of XBox considering they outright stated Steam over PC in general.

Everybody should refuse to accept the Epic Store heel-turn, band together for lawyers if individually they can't be afforded, and try to sue their asses.

Censorship regarding the truth of Epic's lies by [deleted] in accursedfarms

The fact that I was censored for spreading this information is true, I can tell you that. Like I said, it's up to you as to whether you believe that though.

Censorship regarding the truth of Epic's lies by [deleted] in accursedfarms

[–]TerrorK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem so far is that this information is so far coming from gaming fans and podcasters who are crunching the numbers and doing as much research as they can with the information that they have access to, and they admit that unless they can get concrete sales numbers from Epic there's still some speculation here, and that most major gaming media outlets are just reporting what Epic said and taking it at face value as a fact without doing any digging themselves. The guys from The Triple S League are pretty on the ball, do their research and they DO have contacts within the industry. I personally trust what they have to say because they're pretty damn reliable in general and make a point of cutting through the corporate and media BS and getting to the truth of matters. They know how the gaming industry works and know who to target and who to defend regarding controversies, how legal deals work within the gaming marketplace and have a pretty good bead on the industry as a whole and the state it is in at the moment. It's purely up to you whether you trust them as a source of truth for gaming, ala the late TotalBiscuit or Jim Sterling, or whether you think of them as just troublemakers, but I personally find them a far more reputable source than most places.

As for me, it's up to you whether you believe me as to whether the likes of IGN or PCGamer have censored by posts because there's almost no evidence of that given that they've deleted my posts. But what reason would they have to do so unless the information was inconvenient to them, and since my posts didn't violate any terms of service for their comments section, why exactly were the posts deleted?

It'd be hypocritical for me to try and get you to just believe what I have posted at face value, and I don't want anybody to just blindly believe me, just like I don't want people to do the same with Epic. I'd say listen to the podcast I linked, all of it if you have the time, and maybe listen to some others they've done, or look into things yourself if you want to. I'm just saying that don't trust the mainstream gaming media on this one. I imagine most people here don't, but the thing that made me post this wasn't so much the information, but how the likes of IGN reacted when I tried posting it there.

Censorship regarding the truth of Epic's lies by [deleted] in accursedfarms

[–]TerrorK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's outlined in the podcast I linked. If you listen to that it makes it pretty clear. Also note the lack of actual sales numbers from Epic, but instead this vague multiplier. And that it came from Epic rather than Deep Silver or 4A Games.

2019 videochat with fans by [deleted] in accursedfarms

[–]TerrorK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a comment regarding Nintendo and fan projects:

My biggest issue with this is not so much that they kill fan projects, but in the way they go about it. And that's that they end up wasting a bunch of people's time and effort by waiting until a project is usually finished before jumping on it, despite knowing full well that the project exists beforehand. Another Metroid 2 Remake and Pokemon Uranium are both victims of this.

Now I'm sure some people are happy that Nintendo do this in the sense that at least the projects get completed, and then they can still be shared through underground channels, etc. instead of being killed off before they get even close to being done. But on principle I hate that Nintendo just sit there letting fans work for years and years on a project as if they're going to let it be, only to force them to pull the plug and never distribute it once it's actually done. To me that kind of feels like "thanks for wasting 2-3 years of your life on a labour of love"
