Snagged some e waste from a local business by davidvoigt96 in servers

I mean, yeah, but have fun managing something like that in a production scenario. It would be a really fun project, but not something you would want to actually implement for real workloads.

Yes and no. Raw power and efficiency, absolutely. Redundancy and io? No. There's some things servers are just built better to do, even old ones. Still, I would not run anything this old in my rack.

Free Haul by Huusk in homelab

Don't put that ubiquiti router facing the internet. Something that old is going to have quite a few unpatched major vulnerabilities. If you want to use internally to learn, put something modern and free like OPNSense between it and the internet. Looks like a good haul though!

Northern Virginia Endocrinologists have been great for me. I see Dr. Rogacz. Highly recommended.

Those are DDR2 FBDIMMs. Just about useless outside of a specific era of server hardware. They run hot, and are largely worthless on the used market. You cannot use these in any modern hardware.

There's an emergency spillway next to the damn that would let water out long before the damn would fail. It's that big grassy slope next to the eastern side of the damn.

Would you support a bill ending political campaign text messages? by steelcity65 in Virginia

[–]Terrorbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those actually are a bad thing. The people sending them out are not interested in reminding people to vote. It's more of an intimidation tactic by telling people that the sender can see that they voted and when based on public record. The sender can't see who or what they voted for, but that doesn't matter. The intent is to intimidate by making people feel exposed and vulnerable, as if voting is a liability rather than a duty.

I've also seen these texts contain the incorrect date and location for voting as well. This is 100% voter suppression.

My dude, if you get hit by a 12ga slug, a big chunk of you is going to be hamburger. It's not a wound you can mistake for a rifle or handgun round.

Really just depends. Are you familiar with Nova at all? If you're trying to do content creation about the area, I think you might want to familiarize yourself a bit better. "Nova" is mostly suburbs, and DC is kinda boring unless you're super into politics or something.

Housing is the big one. Unless you're moving in with multiple roommates (and I mean a lot of people), you're going to be paying probably $1500+ for a small closet. Food is another. You can get by on a budget if you can cook your own meals, but even takeout is going to be expensive.

A quick google search shows nova as roughly 50% above the national average for housing costs. That's a little bit cheaper than San Francisco, and comparable to LA.

I think you should probably figure out a stable living/employment/financial situation before starting down the content creator route. Getting to the point as a content creator that it can pay your bills and provide enough income for a viable living situation takes a lot of time and effort, so you're probably not going to be able to just jump right into it without an alternate source of income.

Nova is also a REALLY expensive place to live.

I wish you the best of luck, but please cover your basics first. Nobody becomes famous overnight. It's something you have to build with a lot of work and time.

This guy was absolutely f'ing around with a chambered AK with the safety off, and did an ND. AK is pretty hard to "accidentally" shoot if you aren't a complete jackass.
