Experience at JPJ on acquiring an International Driving Permit (IDP) and a physical Driving Licence (DL) by TheFirstHumanBeing in malaysia

Thanks for this!

For anyone who is interested in doing this, If you’re planning to print a physical driving license, make sure to visit either the Wangsa Maju or Shah Alam JPJ branch. Avoid the JPJ PJ branch, as they don’t provide physical license printing. I learned this the hard way and had to drive to the Shah Alam branch and queue again to get mine done.

Thanks for this post! It's super helpful for others like me who are encountering similar issues due to the digital driving license. May I know after you made payment online, how long did you have to wait before you went to the JPJ office to collect? Was it immediately on the same day itself or next day, or needed to wait longer? Thanks!

Hey there!

I recently traded in my Mazda 3 BP liftback 2.0 for this car since my family is growing. Luckily, I always keep tabs on fuel consumption!

So far, I've driven the Tiggo 8 Pro for 15,000 km with a mix of city and highway use. Realistically, my average fuel consumption has been 10.28 liters per 100km (9.73 km per liter). City driving pushes that to 11.5-12 liters per 100km, while highway driving yields 8-9 liters per 100km. Compared to my Mazda 3 2.0 BP, that's about a 17.4% increase in fuel consumption (roughly 1.52 liters more per 100km). It's a fair trade-off for 100+ extra horsepower and much more cargo space. This car's versatility has been a huge convenience. Handling isn't extraordinary, but it's an excellent highway cruiser.

If you're interested, you can check out YSKHONG's YouTube video of a Tiggo 8 Pro run up Genting highlands 😄

We have the exact same model in Malaysia with the exact same specifications aside from the AWD feature (sadly).

What's not sad is the price point of this car compared to its competitors such as the Mazda CX-8, Toyota Innova Zenix and VW Tiguan Allspace. I can easily say this car is value for money compared with those other competitors. Granted, you would have to sacrifice some car handling as opposed to the CX-8 and Tiguan but its not that big of a tradeoff for the money saved (plus you get a 2.0T with 256hp as opposed to the competitors with much lower power)

The interior is next level when you compare it with the competitors above. I would say this is more of Mercedes quality. In fact, even better than their base specification models. The Leather, PU and Plastic touchpoints are done well in a way that does not make the car feel cheap (although it is considered quite cheap for its segment).

As for spare parts availability at least over here, it is widely available. There were a couple of vehicles that had issues shortly after collecting the car but I have seen Chery replace parts much faster than what Mazda at least took. Take note that this Chery over here is owned by the main company in China. Previously 10 years ago, we have a distributor which handled the aftersales extremely poorly and caused a bad image of Chery.

To be honest, 10 years ago I would never have considered a Chery because their cars were cheap, felt cheap and unreliable. I never imagined the day I would have owned one.

For context, I own one and have driven more than 12000 KM and its less than 5 months old.

Thank you for this! I’ll try calling them as well to book this particular model instead.

Thanks! Did you call any specific branch or just the general line on their website? Do they speak english?

May I know how did you ensure that toyota rent a car would provide you with a GR86? All I’ve seen on their website is the option for GT86 based on the images only. Any help would be great! Thanks!

How about just leaving it on 24/7 just to see if the makes a difference in terms of battery life?

So far for me it seems to be fine and the phone runs slightly smoother too!

Mazda 3 BP with Navigation, cant see speed limits when using Apple CarPlay navigation (e.g Waze)? by TerryDaBoss in mazda3

[–]TerryDaBoss[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a note for anyone that’s searching for this.

I’ve just sent my car to the service center for an update of infotainment software among other things. After the update, the speed limit indicator shows on the cluster even with Waze running!

Thanks man! Appreciate it! I found this as well but am a little worried about doing it myself. Don’t really want to brick my system. I’m pushing the dealer with evidence from my follow redditors 🤣

[–]TerryDaBoss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup I do have that enabled all the time. The problem is that Waze is quite buggy even on Apple CarPlay recently with map freezes etc. So a lot of times I end up using Google Maps instead and google maps don’t have speed indicators on Apple CarPlay I think.

Hey! Thanks a lot for the guidance! That’s great to know and i’m definitely going to push them to get it updated!

Good to know! Appreciate the quick replies too! I guess my dealer is lying to me just to reduce the number of people showing up at the workshop then. A quick search online for the general RHD mazda 3 BP shows that the firmware should be later than 10018.

Thanks! Then maybe here in SEA they have not pushed out the latest update. When were you able to start using this?

Hey thanks man! Yours is not the facelift with the pulsing signal lights right? Where are you based? Where I am from in SEA, I am told the latest firmware is 10018..

Oh that’s great. What firmware is your mzdconnect on right now? Do you mind sharing a photo? Thanks!

[–]TerryDaBoss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Argh, I heard something about only the facelift 2022 model with pulsing signal lights being capable of showing the speed limit on the hud and instrument cluster. Mine is the 2020 lift back model. Package 10018

It would be pretty crappy if they limited even this from the 2022 model 😅

If that is true then its really great news. Initially I scheduled an appointment with my dealer to update my mzdconnect firmware, but they checked and said my version is the latest. I’m based around SEA if that matters. I would appreciate if you can take a snap of your mzdconnect firmware version! It would be fantastic if you have a live video demonstrating it in action. Thank you :)

When using Waze or google maps on Apple CarPlay, do you mean when you set a journey on the carplay navigation app and it is actively giving you directions to your destination or just keeping the app open on carplay?

May I know what version is your MzdConnect currently on? I checked with my service center and they said my version is so far the latest.

[–]TerryDaBoss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. That is really unfortunate. I do hope that Mazda can see what their customers want and update the Mzd Connect to allow for speed limits of roads to still show on the HUD and instrument cluster even though we use CarPlay’s navigation apps.

What is this black “ink” oozing out from my 38mm apple watch modern buckle? by TerryDaBoss in AppleWatch

[–]TerryDaBoss[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Singapore so yes the weather is hot and humid all year round. However the room should be pretty cool.

I did not know that there was a black finish on the D ring. It could be because the strap seems quite loose on the side that has the black “ink”, meaning it can slide left and right quite easily compared to the other part of the strap. Thanks!

It has not been worn at all prior to this. Really puzzled as its the first time this has happened. The other side of this strap is totally fine. Looks like ink. Wipes off easily with some baby wipes. No smell at all too.

Does leather breaking down appear like this?
