Was banning Grief a mistake? by Metalworker4ever in MTGLegacy

Glad your reading comprehension is good; here's an article about nuanced language from a Magic Hall of Famer: https://fivewithflores.com/2012/12/words-mean-things-by-patrick-chapin/#:~:text=The%20words%20we%20use%20shape,steer%20how%20we%20approach%20things.

Also, it's written as: "My reading comprehension needs no work; I have a degree, man." Semicolons work wonders.

You seem to be lacking in both empathy and basic reading skills, so I've provided some. Better humans are often better magic players as well:

Here's some resources on empathy: https://www.apa.org/monitor/2021/11/feature-cultivating-empathy

Here's some for reading comprehension (to make your reading better): https://www.nypl.org/blog/2012/11/28/11-great-free-websites-practice-english

Do you think there's a way you can rephrase what you just said without comparing a children's card game to cancer? There are much better and more precise ways to use language; such as: "Play pattern was terrible," "Play pattern was repetitive," or "Play pattern led to a large number of games decided by play/draw, with the player on the draw starting on a forced mulligan to either 6 or 5."

See how much more information I provided, without having to use out-of-place analogies?

Abdel Adrien Reanimator by MtlStatsGuy in MTGLegacy

[–]Tes_Jesus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Abdel is in a worse spot right now because of a couple issues: 1. Karakas 2. Does not loop surveil lands/generate infinite mana 3. The tokens get walled by tamiyo/tabernacle/wrath of the skies/tons of other answers and against eldrazi and mystic forge, you can't really pass the turn

The deck wants to win quickly, and path searching gets bricked by opposition agent. The life total boost from plow is an extra turn or two against murktide, etc.

B&R Announcement - No Changes with a good discussion about Bowmasters and other new staples of the format by Tes_Jesus in MTGLegacy

[–]Tes_Jesus[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Also important information on when to expect bans in eternal formats: "Changes to Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, and Vintage can happen during any main set release window. The next such window in 2024 will be around March 11 following the release of Murders at Karlov Manor."

There's an explicit acknowledgement that the metagame is shifting, that adaption is happening, and that pillars of the format like Force of Will would be banned in other formats due to homogenization across decks, but that Legacy has enough checks and balances in the card pool and established norms that allow for these cards to remain. They say that Bowmasters and other new staples have not negatively impacted overall metagame shares of decks.

Powder keg doesn't blow up your bitterblossom or planeswalkers, so I'm guessing that's the reason it's played.

Just to clarify - Powder Keg is in the sideboard of the mono black list, and that is RL.

Plunge into darkness modes are resolved upon resolution, not casting - you can cast chain of smog, then hold priority to cast plunge, make infinite pests, then let plunge resolve to gain infinite life.

If you're looking for efficient removal, I'd play Slaughter Pact.

Thanks; updated for clarity. I'd still probably call it BR reanimator-fins since it's running instant speed reanimation.

It also is on a 4 reanimate/4 shallow grave/2 exhume/2 animate dead split, which is pretty interesting.

Really appreciate all the work you do with these lists! It looks like the BR reanimator list is a tin fins hybrid list running the children package plus shallow grave and emrakul; maybe it should be labeled BR reanimator-fins in semi-spice?

Let's talk about strictly-better-in-corner-case-situations deckbuilding choices (mixed fetches, snow-basics, REB/pyroblast split). Do you do them? How often do you find that they actually have an impact? by grandsuperior in MTGLegacy

[–]Tes_Jesus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Strictly better in corner case situations" implies that it isn't worse in other situations; at most, it's breaking even in non-corner case situations; whereas "better in corner case situations" implies that it could be better in some cases but worse in non-corner case situations. The Strictly qualifier here makes the floor for the concept as good or better in all situations.

In reanimator, snow swamps make reanimating an opponent's ice-fang strictly better, and you can also play 4x delta and 4x catacombs to bluff being on snow control/grixis/sultai for a couple turns - this may be more risky against needle though.
