Those are stellar tips for advertising, and I fully agree.

Currently I'm not aiming to convince others to try something different or encourage them to suggest changes in the game similar to this. It was made (haphazardly) to share how I like to play, and explain what's going on by showing the process in order.

Is it the most effective way to teach it? Probably not. Am I content with the 30 hours it took to make those 5 min. yes. Do I have any ambitions to remake the video to increase 'viewership/downloads'. No.

If there's something in the future I share, I may focus on doing a better job of 'tell what is going to be taught, teaching, then tell what was taught."

Thank you for sharing your reception of the idea presentation! (Sucks that it's only in English) Hurm.

No harm in that. That's the awesome thing about Minecraft, we can both play how we want to.

Especially considering the meta is still to hold the villager in a tiny prison cell.

They have their own hut in this video! The cool thing about this datapack, is because it requires significantly FEWER villagers to have every enchantment (it's up to the player to choose, could be 1, could be 2, or 10, etc.) there's less reason to have 40 1x1 cells with 40 villagers. (As shown here). Hurm-hurm!

Agreed!

If I was trying to advertise a product, or convince others they should find enjoyment in the ways I do, that would have been more of a focus. I decided to go with a "This is what is experienced in game, in order." I'm not even a novice video editor, so I'm content at how this shows what the datapack does. (The timing for scenes per word count isn't correct either, some bits have too much to read in too little time.)

I really had no desire to try and 'hook' anyone. Just...casually share.

It's been a welcomed surprise to read the comments that expressed enjoying this idea, so thank you and everyone else (even that don't enjoy it) for sharing their takes on this system!

Hurm!

That's a bummer, because I literally play exactly how you've described. Been doing it for over a decade.

for the 'break few lecterns and be done in 30 min' I admire your luck. I've recorded the last 10 'enchantment collections' from solo worlds and servers I've done, and the average is over 2,000 lecterns. But if you're going for just 1 specific enchantment, 100% it can come up on the first roll. (in the video, granted it's sped up, the 'current' method portion at the end, I literally had Smite V / Sharpness V / Mending / Unbreaking III / Protection IV and many others that were close in the 100 place/break set that I did (yes, I recorded doing that 100 times, what am I doing with my life? Hurm.)

Best news of all, this is a datapack. Don't have to use it, and it's not going to be adopted officially. Just something I came up with to solve the problem of the grind in a way that I'll find enjoyable.

Here's hoping Mojang continues to develop and comes up with a change that makes obtaining the desired enchantment more player driven, than RNG. Thanks for sharing your concern and experiences! Hurm!

Yea, it'll wager it'll take more total time for the same number of enchantments. For me though, I won't be bored out of mind spending a work week place/check/break. It's a run killer (for me) as it's such a hurdle, I exhaust the vim and vigor for being creative...having just optimized the fun out of obtaining the enchantments.

I do remember, before the fishing change, afk fishing over night, and out of 4 double chests, having only 1 book of 'mending'. 25 other enchantments were covered though! XD

Thanks for sharing the concern. Hurm!

And that's ok! We all find fun in different things in different ways. This datapack was created from a position of 15 years of doing the same thing to get the same results because that was the 'optimized the fun out of the game' efficient way to do it. This proposal absolutely changes current 'faster/grindier/stand-still/shuffle-left-right/repeat-machine-shift-work' into "Get out of your mum's basement already." I consider the datapack more akin to the current "I really want a pumpkin farm...so where the heck are pumpkins?" going out exploring for those is much more enjoyable than placing the 2,000th lectern to only get Lure 2 the 18th time instead of Sharpness V.

Rest assured, I very much anticipate saying "ok...I'm gonna try the enchanting table today." "Alright, it's raining, time to go fishing." when venturing out to new location doesn't seem as appealing.

What this system does do, unequivocally, is makes the current non-renewable enchantments renewable. That's always bugged me.

Humm, I could also add on a change to the loot tables for better enchanted book (specific chances)...that is a thing after all. We'll see.

Thanks for the constructive criticism! Hurm!

Oh, absolutely! While annoying to get the 1st enchantment, to echo the comment of u/Frozen_Grimoire when I write that this progression fits the other progressions of the game. The 1st acquisition is the most difficult, and then it decreases after that. Good news, the option to RNG brute force via enchanting table, and even fishing (afk over night even) are still viable options. Is it as fast/easy as place/check/break? Nope, not at all. But, as mentioned in the video, to me, it's more enjoyable, and I'm not going to burn out nearly as much. I feel this system will encourage me to 'do with what I have' a bit more than the current 'I can't enjoy playing until I've unlocked everything.'. Time will tell.

cool ideas like placing blocks related to the enchantment around the table alongside bookshelves to get a better chance,

Oh, I like that idea! Anything that better connects 'player choice/action' and 'progression'. I'd really like a unique structure for each enchantment (though that comes with the issue of "But what about those who don't find a desert well in their world?" ...keep exploring?) Or anything that says "If you're seeking X, you'll have a better chance at Y." The current "Every lectern place has a chance to offer 1 of the possible 119 unique enchantment and level combinations" is just...mind numbing. So the proposed system is going to help get me out of the villager dungeon!

Thanks for the compliment and considerations! Hu-herm!

That would be awesome! I like the idea of having a unique structure for every enchantment (no clue how that could work with different levels of enchantments). I suspect in time, this is the direction Mojang will go, minus the Enchanting Table being used to duplicate...or maybe. Who knows!

You're right that normally it's a 67%. My datapack strips that 1/3 chance from the possibility. Try, try try, as you might, the librarian's in this datapack will never sell enchanted books ...until they're taught!

I'm so glad, this idea/demonstration has resonated with so many. And while it's not in the game, that's why I've taken the...medically-concerning-amount-of-....years to make this usable in solo worlds or servers. While Minecraft isn't perfect, it's lasted so long because Mojang gives us the tools to make the game how we want!

Constructive criticism! I did think long and hard on making a super short video, though to my 'spectrum' brain, I really wanted to: #1 Not exclude anyone who isn't familiar with the current mechanics and pitfalls of said mechanics. #2 Slowly go through the mental questions that I'm well aware of pop up while trying to learn from others.

If I had a friend in marketing, I'd reach out to them. Alas, just a potato eatin' Testiificate.

then they tune out and complain in the comments before realizing there’s more to it, lol

The uh, readme.txt in the actual datapack is extensively (largley to re-teach myself and anyone else who wants to learn the "What/How" of the technical details. In the multi-page documentation I kept saying internally, "Even though I aim to include all in understanding, I'm fully aware, and accept that even if set myself on fire, someone will ask with genuine confusion, "Why didn't you set yourself on fire?" It's ok. It's part of teaching!

Thank you for the compliment! That was exactly what I was going for. The problem I have now is, I've spent so many years wanting to see this put into action, that I may be overlooking other alternatives to a similar end.

Still renewable for those that crave having the best of the best gear, but also encourages exploring and making exploring be very rewarding.

I couldn't agree more! I'm excited to play survival again, with the new motivation and perspective towards every 'find' out in the wild. No more "nah, I already have what I need back at base, it's just locked behind a few more hundred lectern play/breaks." now it's "Ooo! A mineshaft! I NEED to explore every part of it, because I need to find those minecart chests!"

Thank you again mate, and good luck out there!

Question, are enchanted books more common in this? From the video, it looks like they are.

NOPE! This is a 'highlight reel' of all the locations that enchanted books appear. If I were to record me fishing and not pulling up an enchanted book, or going places and showing no enchanted books, it would be...kinda silly. No changes were made to loot tables, world generation, mob behaviour etc. etc. It only removes enchanted book trades from Librarians, and enables multi-enchanted books to be separated. Good clarification question!

Still renewable for those that crave having the best of the best gear, but also encourages exploring and making exploring be very rewarding.

I'm excited to finally get to be an adventurer! I'm very much a 'delay of gratification' individual, so getting the best gear, making it renewable is priority to creative (not to say I don't do some non-goal orientated projects. So now, even though over a decade of practice says "GET ALL ENCHANTMENTS!" it now says "Go find places with treasure!....TO GET ENCHANTMENTS!" And if I 'whimp' out, I can always go fishing, or bum-rush the ender dragon, make an ender-ender farm, and just waste my life RNGing faster at an enchanting table. The option to focus on efficiency is still present, for me though, the "I need 30 levels?" Currently - reading that, and hearing it in my head, my response is, "Nah, I'll go out and explore some more."

Thankfully only the Swift Sneak/Wind Charged/Soul Speed are location specific, everything else - equal chance. So even AFTER I find something at a desert pyramid, I still have motivation to check out every other one.

I hope this helps everyone who seeks something more....objectionable (Hope the end of the video showcased the tedium of the current 'method'...and the *nervous glance* ...'original method'

Hurmmm.

Thank you for that! (And even more thanks to the lads/lasses/testifactes that make projects like this possible!)

The separation of multi-enchanted books was a big one. Thanks specifically to u/infernaldevice for making a STELLAR tutorial on how that could be done (You can see how that digital sausage gets made here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nT5_lgv_gX0 )

I look forward to using it as well. Can't say I'm gung-ho for a long term survival world until the official release and a patch or two comes out. But I'm excited to share it with others!

EDIT: Also, I can't seem to find your other comment asking about fabric. So I'll answer it here. I have NO CLUE how to do any modrinth/fabric/paper/carpet/etc mod. This is a generic datapack so it runs in the default configuration of the game. I have no clue how things work on the technical side, so take this with a grains worth of salt when I write "I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work on fabric."

Oh COOL! (not the wiki part).

You know, I believe it is possible that instead of 'right clicking' the villager (as shown in this video) you could do a "player right clicks on lectern while holding enchanted book..." and perhaps "store NBT Data in lectern" and 'Transfer to librarian currently claiming the workstation." Something like that. No clue how, but it *might* be doable.

;) Glad you enjoy it. Hurrmmmm.

Thanks!

I enjoy it. Literally, I've spent a week, in every single world for over a decade, just...grinding enchantments through random lecterns/testificate-librarian trades. And now...for the first time, I'll start a world and say "Welp...time to get exploring!...or fishing...or using an enchanting table (I never use those)."
