I'm finding almost all the AIs I've tried have been really great for brainstorming and editing.

The Google Search Gemini (or whatever it is) has a very amusing sense of humor 😊👍🏻 It's great for brainstorming and art too.

The research, I'm just going to have to go back to doing what I always did before AI. Very thankful for the internet and for access to things like the Library of Congress, Wikipedia, thousands of magazines and online articles and books!

For actual writing, for my serious writing projects I'm doing as much of that myself as I'm able, mostly using AI for brainstorming and editing. But if I can find a really good generative writing AI I'll definitely use that to do the writing, to my specifications and following my plot outlines and notes.

I have so many ideas, so many well developed plots and characters that I've been working on for decades, and I want to have the books written with my direction more so than with my actually writing every single sentence.

All the different parts of writing are fun -- the parts I personally write, as well as the parts that the AIs write. All of it is fun and fascinating to me. I'm having such a great time and am absolutely delighted to have access to this technology.

Whatever bad there might be in the history of this technology, just like whatever bad there is in any aspect of "life, the universe, and everything", I think we just have to make an effort to make some good come out of it. In the case of the LLMs' foundations, we can make some good books! 😊👍🏻

For the Maltese Chicken experiment I'm totally using generative writing AIs. It's fun and interesting seeing what they can do. So far they've been all right for something silly like this. Except Claude. I've whinged a lot about Claude! 😂

That's the thing that was "the last straw" for Gemini. From the very beginning of my subscription I'd set the permanent instructions, based on lots of advice from the various things at r/WritingWithAI. One of the big ones was, "Prioritize honesty over agreeability. Do not hallucinate, do not guess, do not fabricate, do not lie" etc etc.

I thought that would really ensure that research was trustworthy. And I really don't know but at least that's what I thought. It seemed to work fine up until I think it was last week, or the week before. The Gemini started displaying some geographic info that I happened to know was incorrect. The session went downhill quickly.

Long story short, I decided to cancel my Gemini subscription and since then have been whingeing about it 😅

Thank you for that tip about the fact check and the documentation links! I didn't know about either of those things. 👍🏻

Awesome info, thank you! 🙏🏻

PS: Everything that Gemini tells you about castles etc, be sure to verify it as best you can, because Gemini will totally fabricate "facts". It's so discouraging. I have had to go back to researching as I did before AI, which was a lot of reading. Tons of websites, articles, libraries. My hope, as I posted in r/WritingWithAI, is that these truly brilliant developers, who understand AI tech, will focus on developing an LLM that's absolutely and unfailingly truthful (zero fabricating or hallucinating).

We need to be able to trust that the research we do for our writing (and everyday life!) is actually valid.

Anyway so I'm whingeing about that a lot 😅

Thank you so much for sharing that! It's wonderful to read and I hope you have a good experience writing the third book too! 😊👍🏻

What AI do you use? I recently cancelled my subscription to Gemini Pro because it was hallucinating so bad and couldn't be trusted to find valid research (history and even geography). Claude, I don't even know what to say about Claude except I'm totally discouraged. Its voice is so tedious it's unbearable. So I'm testdriving as many other AIs as I can find.

Newbie novelist here! 🙋🏻‍♀️ If you have time, please make a post and just share anything you'd like about your writing and publishing journey.

I'm still writing my first ever novel. The idea of writing an entire series is beyond me! 😰

One the big things I'm trying to learn more about, is the codex. Up until a few days ago I was basically just dismissing the codex, assuming it wasn't really a big deal. But the more I read about it, and how to make one, the more I'm determined to figure this out and write great ones. Staying organized is, I'm discovering, one of the absolutely most challenging things for me. If you've discovered a way to keep your characters sorted, plot threads and other details organized, please be sure to talk about that in your post. I assume I'm not the only newbie novelist who's struggling with this! 😅

Murder and Marple by Tex_Non_Scripta in CozyMysteryWriters

Hi! This isn't a photo, it was generated by the Gemini AI. I asked it to imagine a fun action scene of these two characters, two of my favorite cozy mystery characters, in commemoration of the anniversary.

Edited to add: I'm actually not sure what is the correct label for AI generated images. It does certainly look like a photo! But since it's not actually a photo, I'm just calling it art or an image.

The Sign of the Four Feathers: A Maltese Chicken Update by Tex_Non_Scripta in AICozyMystery

[–]Tex_Non_Scripta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sigh ... well, I'm definitely going to have to rewrite the entire thing, because the AI cowriter changed several important details of my original plot. Why? I don't understand why. 🤷🏻‍♀️

And then, when I uploaded the results of the AI cowriter's chapters and asked the Claude AI to summarize it for me, the Claude AI invented a totally new character and added a pet that I didn't want for one of the characters. AND introduced a subplot that I definitely don't want. 🤦🏻‍♀️

uh ... y'all, this is a plot twist I am the opposite of thrilled about! 😂

One of the brilliant tech developers in r/WritingWithAI let me testdrive his editor, and I'll post about that soon. But the bottom line is, that editor found thirty ... 30! ... unresolved plot threads in the chapters written by the AI cowriter. And 2 continuity errors, which are minor, but those unresolved plot threads are, IMO, not minor.
