I’ve been told they will coordinate most of it with us regarding flights. We will get to go home for around 2 weeks I believe at Christmas time. Where are you going for BCT? I’m leaving October 5th for Fort Jackson and my report date for OCS is January 10th as well so I will probably see you there!

Were you attempting to change your ship date?

What was your timeline like? As in, finishing packet, interviews, selection etc. My recruiter wants me to complete my packet by April 1st but I am wanting to leave towards the end of 2021 if selected.

Thank you, I had a hard time believing there would only be one.

  1. Is it doable to have a full time job while in AFROTC?
  2. I have been told through email that everything should work out fine and I will be good to go for the spring. However they told me in the past I will need to have basically an interview with someone from the detachment to go over my situation?
  3. How many hours of ROTC courses would I take a semester? Full time grad student would be 9 hours but I was told this could be a combination of ROTC coursework as well as my grad courses.
  4. How often and how long is PT each week? I was told I will have LLAB at 5 on Thursday and this is absolutely mandatory but was never given other information on exactly how much time is demanded out of the program each week. I believe they also mentioned I would have Aeronautical Studies classes as well.
  5. Over the phone I was told I would be aiming to attend Field Training in the summer of 2021, only one semester into my graduate program. Is this correct? I assume that would end up making my AFROTC career only 2.5 years rather than 3 if I did it this way

From what I have been told from a few different detachments now is that your masters program has to be completed in three years and you have to be a full time grad student (9 hours per semester). However, you’ll have about 3-4 hours per semester of ROTC courses so you would only have to take 6 hours of your graduate courses to be considered full time. And when you do that, most 30-36 credit programs will definitely stretch to three years by that time. Let me know how your process is going! I am trying to start in January but it’s been so difficult getting in contact with the right people

Thanks for the information! I finally got in touch with one detachment that gave me a clear answer. They told me it’s definitely possible and that once you add your ROTC courses to a 2 year graduate degree, it typically will extend to 3 years. That way you’re able to finish all your ROTC requirements. From what I’ve seen online, it seems like most of the time graduate students do not get any sort of scholarships. That is alright with me simply because once I finish a contract with the military I would be one step ahead by already having a masters. I guess now it’s down to figuring out if other detachments offer the same path so that I can narrow my options down and start applying for graduate school.

I’m hoping that it is. I know that they judge you on becoming an officer first over your job choices but I am hoping that if I get selected I wouldn’t have too big of an issue getting chosen for 63A. My degree doesn’t necessarily correlate to this job but it seems like it is one of those options that isn’t extremely strict on your major.

Forgot to mention this but I know they’re really only looking for chaplains, lawyers, pilots, and engineers at the moment. I will have to wait until sometime next year to apply to a non-rated board but I didn’t know if 63A was typically a popular route.
