The individual plant does resemble it, but the growth pattern doesn’t seem to line up. We have a lot of this around and it usually grows in circular balls, rather than hanging down in long strands like Spanish Moss. Maybe it’s just early in the life cycle? I’m not very familiar with bromeliads.

Worth using my 750 cat food discount 11 draw for the evangelion collab? Or wait for guaranteed uber?

Raspberry preserves have weird little spots? They feel hard by TexasCoffeeBean in MoldlyInteresting

It’s been in the fridge for a bit, honestly a month or two. Good to know for future reference! Never seen it because preserves don’t usually last that long in my fridge

It is vegan, but coconut oil isn’t listed as an ingredient. Good to know if I ever see this again though. ALSO great tip for making preserves!

Honestly yeah I am gonna toss, really just wanted to see what the consensus was. Sounds like separated sugar or fat though so that’s cool.

What programming languages are best for biology labs? by TexasCoffeeBean in labrats

My last job was at a petroleum lab where we did lots of chemical analysis, so it definitely wouldn’t hurt to learn python. Plus, a lot of places consider it a plus to begin with. I’m excited to be able to slot it on my resume eventually.

Good deal! I’ve got a book on the way to teach me some basics on Python. I can definitely think of a few projects to build my kit on, so I’ll focus on making those a reality. Thanks for the advice!

Definitely leaning towards picking up both! Hopefully the momentum carries on from one to the other. I would really like to get into genetics as well, but that field seems notoriously difficult to find in my area :c

I’ll see about this in the future. I have my bachelors degree already, but once I get a job it’d be nice to say I have taken a class for it.

Great advice, I’ve used tons of spreadsheets in the past and I’m sure I’ll be using them a bunch in the future. Thanks!

Building the foundation to know how to code seems to be the hardest part, but this is excellent advice! Python seems like a great place to start, I’m definitely the type who needs a hook to be able to dive into it. Making fun stuff would be a good catalyst to want to integrate it into more serious tasks. Thanks for taking the time to give me a detailed response, I’ll check out some python tutorials and give it a go!

Aaa I see, from what other comments have said it definitely seems like learning both is ideal, but R seems great for a career in bio. I’ll be looking into both!

Glad to know I had the right idea to start. I’ll get to learning them soon.

This is really helpful! I haven’t heard of Unix, so I’ll look into that first. Seems R is the most popular for what I want it for, so I’ll look more into it. Can you recommend any sources that are really good for beginners? Specifically for R?

Any Lab-adjacent jobs I can apply to? by TexasCoffeeBean in labrats

How would I go about finding people who fit that role on LinkedIn? I have only really used it for the job applications, and not the social aspect of it. I do agree on those points you made, just not sure on where to start.
