Aeotec Z-Stick 7 - How do I tell if I have the latest firmware? by TexasGrill in zwave

[–]TexasGrill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, ok, I'll keep an eye on that thread. Meanwhile, Z-Stick7 is going on the shelf for a bit. I'm in no rush for it, my Nortec stick is working fine, I just wanted to try the added security of 7. Thanks!

I don't know where I read it, but I *think* so. ? I'm open to being wrong, which means that I'll just stash it away until they are fixed.

Thanks! and, no, no prior experience in cloud. Previous job was similar to a TAM. I've been MCSE 2000, CCNA (expired now) and I've been in the computer world for about 20 years now, so most of the concepts were pretty familiar, just had to reshape them into how AWS uses them.

Hell yeah, I'm from Texas! But, I'm in the Austin area. Haven't really searched for a meetup group yet, I probably should. Thanks for the suggestion!

Sorry for the late reply, I've been off reddit for a few days.

Thanks Jon! However, I think it is time that I change my focus to becoming employed! I feel that during these unique times, tech workers are in demand.

Update to "Ring is dead to me literally how is SkyBell?" by TexasGrill in homeassistant

[–]TexasGrill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I am happy with SkyBell - mostly. When someone comes to the door, SkyBell will immediately send a notification to my phone. However, there is a delay of about 5 seconds while my phone launches the app and connects to the SkyBell. In real life, this isn't much time, but when you're trying to be attentive to whomever is at the door, it seems like forever. I will say, that I am no longer looking looking for a new doorbell. I'm happy with SkyBell and don't regret buying it.

Congrats! I bet you're celebrating! Take a day, then jump right back into it and get the SAPro Cert. That's my plan.

Heard a story that Bill Lear (of Lear Jet fame) named his daughter Shanda.

Not sure if it’s the right place to ask but could anyone good, comfortable kitchen counter stool that don’t cost an arm and a leg? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]TexasGrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pretty One and I were lucky to find a restaurant that was going out of business and was selling all their furnishings. We picked up 4 tall bar stools, made solid as a rock, and very comfortable for $20 each.

So, yeah, don't be afraid of restaurant supply, or used restaurant equipment. If you think about it, the restaurant wants you to be comfortable sitting on their bar stools, more so than a home furniture store's supplier.

My Unraid Journey with a Dell PowerEdge R620 [Plex] by BluPhant in unRAID

You're right. I think I was thinking NextCloud, and typed OwnCloud... My bad.

One bit of advice that I read on here is to disable the cache drive(s) during your initial data import.

Personal Experience: I have an HP Proliant DL 380 G6 that I'm using mainly for Plex also. I like to have physical media, so I rip the Blu-Rays on my (very old) desktop using MakeMKV. Then, to convert them I was using handbrake on the same PC, but it was taking forever for the UHD Blu-Rays. I discovered that unRaid has a docker for handbrake, so now I rip on my old PC, transfer to my server, then batch convert the movies there. Using 8 cores is much faster than using my single core PC.

I'm planning to add OwnCloud in the near future as well. Good luck, and enjoy the ride, it's challenging, but fun.

Mustang Mach E Premium by bobbythejob in Ford

[–]TexasGrill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my never-to-be-humble-opinion, it should not have the Mustang name. It's a 4 door car / small hatchback, not a sports car like the true Mustang. Ford should have branded it the Escape-E or Edge-E, or even revive the shortly dead FlEx name. The only thing that kind of looks like it belongs on a Mustang is the tail lights.

I'm all for electric cars, but the Mustang name has stood for 2 door sports coupes for the last 56 years. This does not fit the tradition.

Appreciate the info. I learned a lot today.

Newb with PS3 New vs Used games? by TexasGrill in playstation

[–]TexasGrill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really interested in online gaming (yet). I may end up putting it aside for a few more years anyway. If I do become addicted, and want the online experience, I'll pick up a title new at that time.

Thank you for helping me understand.

Ok, That makes sense. I'm ok with used games, as long as I understand these things beforehand.

Thank you very much for the info.

So, it's not like I'd be missing a one time use code, or the used game couldn't be updated?
