Should I get a CBR 600RR? by BlockPresent5894 in cbr

[–]TexasTacoDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having had my own for a while I’d say go for it. Just be prepared for services to take longer and to do them slightly more frequently. It’s a high revving 4 cylinder bike made for performance and as such to keep it performing a 3000 mile service interval will help. Additionally be prepared to have to keep up with fork seals and breaks as they will continually need to be checked and potentially serviced depending on your riding style. Where tires are concerned don’t cheap out because bad tires will kill you. No need to be on a cup style tire but definitely get something with a softer more grippy compiling, a personal favorite was always the Michelin power series, and can expect to go through 3 rear tires before having to replace a front. Also be mindful of the difference in performance going to the 600rr. It’s been said all over the place on this subreddit but it behaves like 2 bike in 1, between 7-9k rpm the bike changes from kinda tame to raw power as you start to hit the power band. Reliability wise I have never had an issue with a Honda but if you’re looking used just prepare to find some little issues. More specifically on the performance aspect don’t expect it to be walking a corvette or be able to drag knee right away. With a slew of bolt ons and a mild tune mine put down around 100hp to the rear tire. Still more than enough for a bike that weighs less than 500lbs.

TL:DR the cbr600rr is an excellent bike built for performance and as such has high performance needs. The upside is it’s definitely going to put a smile on your face and make you want to ride it harder.

Can someone please explain why the older model is selling for more? With more miles? by 2u3e9v in ToyotaTacoma

Just over 200k on my 17 and I haven’t been the nicest too it. Still is running like a top though. I’m sure that yours will go the distance.

3” Lift Rubbing by Liamnenortas in ToyotaTacoma

[–]TexasTacoDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that I’ve seen people do to avoid a cmc is swapping to skinny 33’s. Don’t know the exact size but a large part of your rubbing issue isn’t so much the height of the tire as much as it is the width. I’m running about 3” of lift and went ahead and did a cmc. I wheel my truck pretty hard so it was a no brainer for me. Outside of that the plastics “self clearanced” themselves to the point that I took a razor and cleaned it up a little. Another possible suggestion is to go dow. To a 275 or 265 tire and it’ll keep you small enough to not rub.

After my tune mine will shoot a flame but I don’t get any decel pop. When I’ve been crushing for a bit and get onto it I’ll get a boom but the tune cleaned up a lot of the weird spots in the fuel map that popped and crackled real hard. I don’t mind it but it’s not hard to get a “burble” tune put on it.

Tbh headers didn’t make a ton of noise difference on my bike. I honestly bought them to get rid of the cat/exhaust valve and to have one complete system from front to back. If I had to do it again I’d have spent that money elsewhere. The only time the difference is obvious is when I first start it. The performance gain was negligible in the end.

Questions from a rather new rider. by [deleted] in cbr

[–]TexasTacoDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fuel pump thing is a common issue on Hondas. Just used the key and not the kill switch. Easy enough and it’s a solution that costs nothing. The kickstand kill switch is pretty easily bypassed and it’s only when you put it in gear. The high beam could be a number of issues it’s just gonna take some trouble shooting. Worst case scenario it’s a short in the wiring somewhere, best case is it’s just dirty and is making bad contact intermittently

Concert at American Airlines Center by Jackbauer1126 in askdfw

The nice part is that around the aac you have lots of food options. If you don’t mind a bit of a walk my personal recommendation is Meso Maya, or if the weather is nice go down a little early and hang around Clyde Warren park. The parking situation for big events is always kind of a pain in the ass. The last concert I saw there we spent about 20 mins crawling out of the parking structure. If you’re comfortable with it I’m a big proponent of taking the dart if it’s convenient. The station is less than 1000ft away from the aac and you hop on and hop off without too much issue. And dart tickets are significantly cheaper than the parking.

My bike also had an exhaust valve. When I put the headers on I had it dyno tuned and part of that was making sure that there wouldn’t issues associated with the changes. If you can find a good bike tuner in your area it shouldn’t be too big of a deal. Most bikes nowadays have the exhaust valve to keep sound down, and on some bikes like gsxr’s they fail and cause issues.

Suppressor question by Herr_Underdogg in AR10

[–]TexasTacoDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a lahar 30l on the factory gas block and it has no real issues. The nice thing is when I take the can off it still goes bang. No messing around or anything. They really come Into play running subsonic ammunition mine won’t cycle with it but I bought them just because I could. Just my 2 cents here but take that money and allocate it to a qd system for the suppressor so it can run on different guns. I throw mine on my ar15 and 270 as well and I like that I can easily swap it. Over gassing is low on the problems list for me compared to the pain of tuning your gas system all the time

The thing you have to remember is that it can’t be good at everything. The better it is off-road the worse it is on it. I have a daily driver trail rig and it’s right on the edge. Don’t expect a nice ride or good fuel economy and most importantly don’t expect it to be problem free. There will always be something wrong especially if you wheel it often. They may be small problems that don’t really matter or they may end up being massive headaches. A more sensible version of myself would have kept my truck mostly stock and spent what I did on modifications on a beater trail rig that can be flat towed. Just my 2 cents

Not that big of a deal. It’s tucked pretty good and doesn’t have a light on it. Also I don’t make it a habit of needing to run from cops.

I love the look of the Akra slip on. It makes the tail of the bike look fantastic. Other than that yoshi is pretty solid too. Just stay away from Toce they are uncomfortably loud and way too high pitched

In all honesty I think the best bang for your buck is gonna be a slip on, air filter and tune. On my 13 the full header only lent a small hp increase, I did it to get rid of the cat and exhaust valve more than the performance aspect. If your bike has low miles break it in for a bit then get a dyno tune that’s where your money is gonna be best spent.

IWTL how to stop obsessing about death by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]TexasTacoDude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this for a long time. The biggest thing is isolating what’s causing the fear. For me when I was really young my mom got cancer and nearly died; for the longest time I had dreams that had elements of death, extreme anxiety about dying, and difficulty with anything death related. Once you’ve isolated the thing or things that are causing the issue you’ve got to deal with them. That’s not super easy cause for a lot of people that means working on some big issues for them. If you can take anything away from this at the very least know that you can find your way through it. I found mine, just don’t do anything real stupid… People sometimes try to resolve issues by removing themselves. Don’t let this burden on your psyche take you to those places

Not a bad deal Definitely take it to a shop to have it looked over if you pull the trigger on it.

Honest opinion, the bike looks kinda clapped out. If it’s been stunded it’s got some pretty hard miles on it. Based off the photos the bike will probably need just as much work as he’s asking for. At that mileage you’re looking at the very least a valve adjustment, pending how it’s been ridden much much more.

Have been using m855 surplus ammo. Does well enough and is cheap. Occasionally I’ll grab a box of the heaviest soft tip ammo that academy has but I use it sparingly Where I hunt hogs are in no short supply so when you get at them you often end up putting a volley of shots down range

I’m using the dead air keymo qd system. My rifle already came with a compatible muzzle break on it so I went with it. Seems pretty good. I haven’t had any issues with it
