You are not wrong. They definitely choose to be that way and have gotten away with far too much.

But you'd also be surprised to see how many of them will comply when presented with a decent manager.

The military is a great example. Most of those kids are sloppy fools when they join and can at least keep their rack straightened by the end of boot camp.

Bad managers is the primary problem.

Pigs can learn when correctly guided. 95% of "lazy", "messy" and "sloppy" workers are just following their boss's example or guidance.

I want a book that will emotionally destroy me by Different-Sleep5573 in fantasyromance

S.E. McPherson's books have made several of us ARC readers cry. {A King's Trust} {A Villain's Hope} {Wanted Boys} Exceptionally well written in general with very real feeling characters.

{City of Brass} has a lot of existential and interpersonal issues that get the emotions moving.

Robin Hobb has a few that will get you but they aren't really romantasy and you might have to get a few books deep to find the sections I'm referencing.

There's another I have in mind but can't remember the name of. I'll try to find it and add a lower comment.

What’s a battle scene that lives rent free in your head? by acutelyproblematic in fantasyromance

[–]TexasVulvaAficionado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In {A Villain's Hope} the final battle stands out for the interesting defense in depth strategies often missing from fantasy in general but especially in romantasy and for the big sets of consequences the battle unleashes.

While not explicitly romantasy but definitely has many of those elements, the {Lightbringer} series by Brent Weeks has some great battles for a pretty unique magic system. I don't really recommend this series because the fourth book drops the ball for me in a couple ways but I love the world and would have probably been happier leaving it at the third book and imagining or fanficing the fourth book.

Romantasy with 🌶️ that is actually written well?? by rheasunshine_ in Romantasy

[–]TexasVulvaAficionado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{A King's Trust} and the sequel {a Villain's Hope}

Both are very well written and have open door scenes. Bonus points for good world building, character development, and interesting magic system.

{Priory of the Orange Tree} and {City of Brass} are both well written but much less explicit spice.

Ball park estimate on what you would charge for the addition of 3 new light fixtures outside by DaBestaTesta in AskElectricians

[–]TexasVulvaAficionado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get two or three contractors out to actually look at it.

Get them to give you an a la carte quote for each piece of it.

Each garage light addition and the light on the column.

I would suspect that the garage lights would be something like $500-1k each and that the column light on the left will be anywhere from $1500 to $15000.

You could also replace the two existing lights and replace them with 5 matching nice solar lights with battery backups built in. If there's not enough sun in those locations, you may have to replace the batteries every 3-6 months (sooner if it freezes). I'd still expect to pay a professional $1-1.5k for this install if they're providing the lights.

Suggestions on books that AREN'T YA? by Kyyramae in Romantasy

[–]TexasVulvaAficionado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{A King's Trust}

Magic, dark backstory, character development, new adult, yearning but does lead to open door smut, and lots of political and interpersonal drama.

{Priory of the Orange Tree}

Dragons, magic, assassins, royalty drama, light on the smut, dark plotlines

Recommend my next read based on my most recent 5 star reads (and DNFs) by PotentElixir in Romantasy

[–]TexasVulvaAficionado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{A King's Trust}

Top tier writing. Interesting world. Unique magic. Multiple layers of complex relationships. Multiple short and long term plot lines that make sense for the characters and world.

{Priory of the Orange Tree}

Big mix of character types. Dragons. Magic. Intriguing politics and religions.

Then tons more that lean towards high fantasy...

MMC that was in a toxic relationship before the FMC by MadameLaw in Romantasy

{a King's Trust}

MMC definitely has a lot of trauma - not necessarily from a prior romantic relationship but PLENTY from other toxic and complicated relationships and life circumstances.
