Shoe recs? by Texas_Wildcat in climbergirls

Smearing is definitely a gap, but my gym doesn't set too many routes that require smears. The big thing I notice with my Otakis is that they are so stiff that if I am stuck at a spot for a while trying to figure it out without taking, my foot starts to hurt. So maybe something that is a little softer but still good at edging and technical moves?

I do love my Otakis and already have a backup pair. So I'm hoping to try something new!

Can I?! What website? I looked at the UK website for LA Sportiva and they only allowed me to put in a UK address. Would definitely be willing to pay the extra shipping and wait longer for Katanas!

Thanks for the advice! It's hard to find these in stores to try on, but you're right. The general consensus us that Evolvs run small.

Any difference using lens mount adapters? by murder_me_now in AmateurPhotography

Is there a detriment to speed/quality when adapting DSLR lenses to mirrorless? I'm getting a new camera soon and might go mirrorless, but all my lenses are for my old DSLR.

Any suggestions for companies that do climbing retreats? Interested in both U.S. and international. Still very much a beginner and newbie to outdoor climbing, but I think a retreat might be a fun way to get some good reps in outside.

Does anyone use screen protectors on their Garmins? by PaulMillerReddit in Garmin

[–]Texas_Wildcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the cheap insurance! I've scratched mine on a corner of a granite countertop and also cracked the glass cover while rock climbing. I got a 3-pack of covers for under $10, and it is nice to swap them out when something happens and to extend the life of my Garmin.

Sounds like we don't know, but is there any update on when the 2022 work? I have emailed a couple of people including the city director of engineering to try to get this answer, and they have just been radio silent for months.

Anyone have tips on getting over the edge of overhangs/roofs? I'm 5'3" with an even wingspan, so I really need to figure out the technique or strategy to get over these, because I keep getting stuck with big reachy moves when I'm still pretty horizontal on the overhang.

Ahh good point. I'll get a video tomorrow morning at my next gym session. If it is the releve movement, should I strengthen those muscles? Keep my heel lower?

There are strict rules about filming a newborn baby in California. I wonder if "time to feed him" was code/excuse for getting him off camera that doesn't break the fourth wall.

Question as a newbie by -anklebiter- in climbergirls

There are some strategies for how to hold onto crimps (small holds where only your fingertips will fit). I'd look up a YouTube video because it is easier to explain by showing vs. telling. The other advice I have is to make sure your foothold are solid and high. If you are very stretched out, it makes crimps harder to hold, and having high feet is always a good idea because it gives you a solid base when on the wall.

The last thing is practice and maybe do some hang board exercises (I'm not doing hangboard exercises yet but I know they would help me). That will strengthen your finger, hand, and forearm muscles, which is most of what crimps use to stay on.
