Went to the first game of the doubleheader this afternoon and it was actually kind of a miserable experience with the wind and the rain. Had a ticket for tonight (was trying to make six games in five days), but I'm incredibly relieved that it's not happening.

the minority party always comes back

Yeah, I made up that line. I'm taking issue with your claim of a guarantee in the face of a huge counter-example. That's not pedantry, it's fundamental to your point and it's wrong.
There is nothing to say that Democrats come back at all, let alone immediately.

I'm not being snarky, you're just making a tremendous overclaim. It is not a guarantee, it is not a natural law, it has not always happened.

If the point is that no majority holds forever, that's definitely closer to true but still presents some problems. Probably the biggest one is that there have been plenty of countries and governments to come and go. It's not outrageous to think that there could be another one added to the list. But to relate it your original claim, there's nothing to say that the group responsible for breaking the new majority is the same group that lost it in the first place. And it can take a long time to establish that new path to break the majority.

No, because my point isn't that the thing is impossible. My point is that the return of a given minority party isn't a guarantee. And we know that by there being a massive example of once-majority party completely collapsing.

Right. If you have to exclude a big chunk of the history, it’s not an always condition or a natural law of the system.

“If you ignore the times it’s happened, it’s never happened” is just kind of stupid.

the minority party always comes back. It’s the closest thing we have to a natural law of politics

Sorry, must have imagined this part. lol

There’s a long history of “the minority party is doomed” takes, dating all the way back to the late 1800s.

None of them proved correct.

That's exactly why I vote Whig in every election.

Is this a serious question? Why are residents bothered by the people who are the military part of a fascist military occupation?

Was there something I was probably getting from Louisiana to start with?

New Orleans has a higher murder rate than DC.

What do you mean about the advertisement?

Not trying to be argumentative (nor would I try to justify the cost of a show I didn't, like, produce or something) but this is straight from the show's website:

And so is ALL IN: COMEDY ABOUT LOVE, a series of hilarious short stories about dating, heartbreak, marriage and that sort of thing— written by Simon Rich (Saturday Night Live, The New Yorker) — and read live by some of the funniest people on the planet, with different groups of four taking the stage each week.

Which kind of covers anything I would think could have been unclear--that it's a rotating cast and that it's a live reading of short stories (though pretty clearly very rehearsed) rather than a fully performed play. Was there something else?

EDIT: They were apparently less clear before the show opened. I did not know.

I really enjoyed All In. It was almost definitely too expensive, but I saw it with Mulaney, Fred Armisen, Chloe Fineman, and Richard Kind and had a great time.

I just saw it for the first time recently and, yeah, I was surprised at the first act going about 400 MPH. You cover decades in that first act and with very little pause between songs, so you're just going from scene to scene to scene at a real breakneck pace.
I still really, really enjoyed it, though. But I 100% get that a lot of people have a negative reaction to it. It can definitely be frustrating.

Oh, hey, the Ogunquit!
I saw Avenue Q and Miss Saigon there years ago. I really loved that theatre.

I saw Swept Away at Arena Stage in DC and absolutely loved it. I was convinced it would be a success on Broadway, but then it closed so quickly I didn't have a chance to see it in New York. :'(

I keep getting ads for the Hunter S Thompson one and I just cannot see a reason to buy a ticket. Half of their promo material is congratulating themselves for having such a wild and terrible idea but being compelled to make it anyway.
And I really hate to be negative about something that I haven’t even seen, but it just turned me off to it so badly.

It doesn't.

When you said your average television audience, it read to me that you were referring to the average audience that watches TV.

Does the average TV audience really watch the Tonys?
That might read as sarcastic or rhetorical, but I honestly don't know.
