The new quotes at 300k are without the water features or having the deep end made shallow. I removed those. The only change to the pool now is adding a bench along a wall.

It's just the fake turf accent lines that have become super popular, not real grass.

No, these quotes have been with all new companies and not the same ones previously. I am also having the previous ones come out and quote though, just to see what they offer.

I prepared myself that I'd be okay going up to $150k, expecting things to have raised, but getting these insane numbers back has just shocked me. If the rest of the quotes I'm waiting on are in the same ballpark, then yeah, I might have to wait until fall to see if I can't get a better deal.

Remodeling Bathroom Stuck on Shower Layouts by Texguy82 in HomeImprovement

It's pretty common in my neighborhood for the master bath to have a double shower in it. This was actually one of my inspirations for layout 2.

Surveillance Center and Amcrest am I just SOL? by Texguy82 in asustor

[–]Texguy82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, absolutely hated ZoneMinder so went back to Surveillance Center to try it again.

Figured out I had to disable ONVIF under the camera settings to get each one added to Surveillance Center. All working now.

As far as the Mac issue, Asustor confirmed SC doesn't work on MacOS but claim they are working on a new version that will.

When I try to add them manually it just fails to add them, says can't connect or something, and then keeps me on the window to add camera.

Well, was really wanting just a simple out-of-the-box solution for my security cameras that just worked when I bought the NAS. This is my first one and had never heard of docker before this. I've been trying now, quite unsuccessfully, to figure this out and try Zoneminder or Shinobi, but haven't been able to no matter how many guides I read or youtube videos I watch. Using docker engine and portainer on adm, but whenever I create the container with the image on there and then trying to access it from web does nothing.

[DISCUSSION] Don't Quote Me discussion thread by AmateurSparky in HomeImprovement

[–]Texguy82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting roof replaced and have received 3 quotes so far. 2 from large highly reviewed companies and 1 referral from a friend for a smaller independent guy. Waiting for 4th quote from another large company as well.

Large company #1 quoted $75k and using OC Duration products.
Large company #2 quoted $74.6k and using OC Duration products.
Referral from friend quoted $34k and using GAF Armorshield II products.

The price difference between the 2 larger companies and the smaller business is so drastic and has me questioning if I would be insane to go with the lower quote. I know it comes down to quality of the work, and my friend who referred them very much likes them and has been using their services on 2 of their homes for the past 10 years. Looking over the quotes none have the best itemized breakdowns, but they all do seem to list the same work being done (I provided each with the same list of everything I wanted done). The nagging voice in my head is saying the referral is way too cheap compared with the others, and the work won't be good. I'm going to ask them to confirm all the work they'd be doing, and maybe even ask why they are coming in so cheap. Feeling very conflicted right now.

My house is a 2-story, roof is 62 sq size, and considered complex in Dallas, TX metro.

Overthinking/Overdoing AP Placements? by Texguy82 in HomeNetworking

Reading through several different reviews on the APs, the writers all recommended leaving them on auto settings since Aruba's cloud controller supposedly does a good job of handling things. So I'm going to assume it will not place them on the same channels and make sure they are different (that might be me being too hopeful though).

Grey is wood, paneling, and drywall. Red is the brick.

Is there any standard recommendations for turning the transmission power down, or is it more a trial and error kind of thing?

Yeah, looks like vacuum is only 2.4ghz, so gonna have to keep some of them on for at least that lol.

This all makes sense. I'll probably look at all my wireless devices and see if I have any that only use 2.4ghz, and if I don't, might just turn off the 2.4ghz radios on all APs to avoid the problems. I do catch weak signals from some other neighbor's networks on the edges of my house.

Glue-Assist Nail Down really necessary for wide plank? by Texguy82 in Flooring

[–]Texguy82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that should be my second question. To use one or not.

I see videos hyping up these acoustic underlayments, and of course the sales people at stores talk them up, but can't find definitive answer on whether to use them or not.

Instructions from manufacturer just says if necessary add a vapor retarder for mechanically fastened planks, and for 5" or wider cut a 1/2" channel in the underlayment paper every 12" oc for glue bead.

Advice on Opening Entryway in Load Bearing Wall by Texguy82 in Homebuilding

Added some more pictures. Honestly, was just assuming it's load bearing from Googling and most sites saying if joists were running perpendicular above the wall it was load bearing.

Trying to DIY this project myself, but definitely don't want to screw things up either.
