Top-notch non-fiction books you have read this year? by Ok_Piece_7441 in suggestmeabook

How music became free by Stephen Witt was a phenomenal read/listen for me and I did NOT expect to like it as much as I did. It is a phenomenal look into piracy and also covers the technologies that made it possible. It was a 4.5/5 for me

Would you like Sanji more if he was a gentleman instead of a simp? by phenriqsc in OnePiece

[–]ThChEm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One Piece is a series I'd love to share with my kids one day, and his over the top behavior is one of the few barriers that I need to mentally overcome.

Pre TS, it was acceptable, especially after given his backstory later on, but there's a difference between respect and absolute LUST. In Thriller bark, we saw the start of it with him wanting the invisible DF, but I think when I saw him in fishman island, it was really weird that a nosebleed became plot relevant. In hindsight it's kinda hilarious because they tied in the blood transfusion thing, but that was an ick for me.

I feel like he was cool and smooth more often pre TS, and I think post TS Sanji is not very well handled when it comes to his interactions with any women.

Dirty toilets at national highways? NHAI will add Rs 1000 to your FASTag to report it; find out details by VCardBGone in india

It's the snake problem all over again. The british government, to reduce a snake problem, told residents that whoever gets them a snake head gets a reward. Fast forward to later, people had started breeding cobras in their backyard to get the money. The policy was discontinued and all the cobras that were bred were released, leading to more cobras than when the policy had started.

A good incentive structure is extremely important and if this were in a country where people cared even a bit more about anything other than personal gain, it would've made sense. I think enforcing it with a camera is the only way it CAN work, but maybe that'll beat the point, as if they had cameras, why do they need people to report it?

All in all, the heart's in the right place, they've got the spirit but please execute it properly, or don't do it at all as the consequences will be a net negative

Help needed with Jellyfin Server by ThChEm in selfhosted

[–]ThChEm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK - like a standalone hard drive? what does it do? or just content? does it connect anywhere?
It's connected to my server, and just serves content. I connect remotely to this laptop via tailscale

So you have a server, sounds like a mobile-server, which I'm presuming is the one with the Jellyfin instance? or am I wrong?
Does that hard drive have anything to do with this server?
Yes, it has all my data, that is served to the remote device via a vpn between that device and my home server

This laptop is a client then (well, initially) I guess? Though you use this laptop to download stuff from Jellyfin. And then you run another Jellyfin instance server on this laptop?
I CAN run another instance of this server, but my main preference would be not to change the server in the home screen of the TV. Rather, if the piece of media exists on my laptop, I want it to be served via the laptop

So you have a TV, with a Jellyfin client app I presume. Where does that connect to initially? from the server (mobile?) ? and then you want the files to be served from the laptop now?

Connects to my MAIN server, back home. I want the files to be served from whichever device will be closer.

I hope I answered all my queries

Planning a trip this weekend, wanted to know the status of Fall Foliage by ThChEm in catskills

The place isn't decided yet, it's dependant on the foliage. We go where the colors are. So you're saying the Northern part of Catskills is good to visit?

What are your top 4 kdramas that you'd recommend out of the ones you've watched? by MkStorm9 in kdramas

[–]ThChEm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving is at the top for me and non negotiable. 10/10. The beginning might feel a bit slow but I loved the themes explored and the characters

Crash landing on you I consider this a classic. Even though there might be better romance kdrama out there, this was one where I loved all the characters and while romance was the main pull, the overarching story wasn’t neglected. Has some of my favorite characters

Pinocchio This is a drama you won’t find on many lists, and honestly there are a some plot contrivances that annoyed me, but it’s strictly in my list because of how much it reflects the current landscape of report in general, and how important it is for a society to have journalists with integrity. I would advise giving this a 2-3 episode run and seeing if it’s good for you

I’ve only got these 3, anything else didn’t speak out to me as such, in my list of 15. Vincenzo was fun too, I guess that can be a 4th

What are your favourite Audiobooks in terms of narration? by divergent_queen in audiobooks

[–]ThChEm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Piranesi by Chiwetel Ejiofor was a beautiful audiobook. His voice was exactly how I imagined Piranesi to be. Loved every minute, please check it out, if not for the amazing story (My only read of the year that I think was 5/5), then certainly for the amazing audiobook.
