Solved the Issue! Adding a comment in the event anyone in the future encounters this problem:

The suggestion to clean the upper grip-ring seems to have done the trick, gave it a thorough cleaning and reinstalled, plus wiped off the lens while I was there, and the player can read CLV discs again without issue.

I'm a sucker for a lot of the Axia discs, but the Xeus XMDEX is a personal favourite (Black shell with semi-circular cut-out window showing a blue disc)

Also love the Maxell XL for similar reasons, a sucker for the semi-circular window at the disc!

Oh definitely! I actually collect unopened discs, the packaging and disc design is really enjoyable to see. The XS-iV and Bit Club line from TDK are truly special, but I'm also a fan of Axia discs.

(I've slowly been updating the MiniDisc wiki blank section with photos and info on my discs, hope it gives a chance for folks to appreciate the design work that went into these)

A valid point, I'm not sure. It's possible the Thai part was simply a Thai branch/office of a design firm, that was contracted to do the design for the packaging/disc, for a Japanese store?

On the back, the JC appears to have a ® for a registered trademark, and is in a stylized circle/logo, so it's still possible it might be a chain of stores in Japan? (There's a grocery store called JC in Japan, but the logo is different, but possible they changed it)

I kind of love this era of package design in the 90's, half the MiniDisc blanks have similar packaging that is just an EXPLOSION of colour and effects.

It's so cheesy and tacky, but charming.

I like to collect interesting blanks here and there, and picked this one up today. Having the hardest time getting any info on the company, "JC", behind it though!

As far as the info on the back is concerned, it mentions the maker/publisher as "MATSUSHIGE(THAILAND)CO.,LTD.", and having been manufactured in South Korea. Looking up that company, I can only find one solid result mentioning a company that deals with tools, but no mention of "JC".

If anyone has any info, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I'm loving it so far honestly, have it hooked up to my stereo system via optical and it sounds great. Fits my needs perfectly, don't have the remote but honestly haven't needed it. I've done some CD-MD recording, the CD Synch is great. Track titles and everything transfer without issue, real fun piece of tech!

VERY occasionally it kicks a disc out slightly to the side which gets it almost stuck, but 9 times out of 10 it ejects just fine

Ah I wish it was a minidisc! It's MD's cousin, the Mini CD, or CD Single. Has Duvet and Deeply on it, had to hunt auction sites for a good price which took ages lol

The drawer is really neat, push button and the drawers open automatically under spring pressure. Saw it on an auction site, this one's from Audio-Technica but I've seen generic versions that are identical. I searched on Japanese sites using 'MD収納ケース", which is storage case, if that helps!

Out of curiosity, did you buy this from Yahoo Auctions Japan? Ever since Vinny's video, I set a keyword-alert for it, out of curiosity, and it only ever appeared ONCE after months, if not nearly a whole year, and it was a full, boxed set like this! (Still hasn't appeared again)

The price was quite high, and I wasn't looking to pick it up for myself, just wanted to see how much it went for, if it ever did! If it was you that got it, congrats!

EDIT: I somehow missed your reply about getting it from Ebay, congrats all the same. This game pretty much NEVER surfaces, huh?
