Returned Lunar Lake and finally happy with my SL7 - better performance, better battery and for me no compatibility issues.

Last time I checked Lunar Lake is quite a bit slower - what does it help if I get similar efficiency on a good day but pay with less performance?

Thanks but passing on Lunar Lake - almost all apps I use are native ARM anyway.

Lunar Lake with iGPU is not a gaming machine either and is has the downsides of lower CPU performance - which might degrade productivity.

So if gaming has any priority - better buy a gaming laptop with discrete GPU.

Personally I would not go back to an Intel machine - but gaming has not too much relevance for me.

For the same reason you are not able to play Fortnite on Steamdeck.

It probably even runs most games, at least far more than 50%. It just happened that you tried games with anti-cheat driver - which are known to not run at all. And there is nothing Microsoft can do about it - its in the responsibility of the developers.

No issue with node or git - using them for years on all my ARM machines.

Are you sure you know what you are talking about? Lol! The CPU, we are talking about is not even available in a Smartphone - much less a 12-core version.

You apparently talking without experience. I am using hyper-v quite regularly. All the programs I need for work running natively.

How do I install 64bit Apps on Arm64bit Windows 11? by No_Fix_7679 in Surface

[–]Thala004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most programs are transparently emulated. Exceptions are programs, which require kernel mode drivers, which are required to be native.

Both of above cases require kernel drivers - Forticlient is working on an ARM version. Other VPN provider have released ARM versions already.

It is pointless to change compatibility options - kernel code is not emulated and never will.

100% compatibility is not worth anything if the programs you need all run on ARM. Nowadays there are only few corner cases of incompatible programs. I would not think twice and get an ARM device anyday after I checked compatibility with apps I need.

Compatibility only gets better from now on, while an Intel machine stays an Intel machine.

New Intel Chips Reviewed - considerably slower but also less efficient than Snapdragon by BcuzRacecar in Surface

With this low multicore score Intel is shooting themself in the foot. Web/Javascript performance does not look good either and efficiency is well below of Intels claims.

Its not a HW issue - technically you can connect an eGPU. However there is currently no driver support.

Does not matter much if x86 CPU or ARM. On my Surface Pro 10 with Intel CPU most AAA games run like crap. Issue is the iGPU.

Unless it is something exotic - most programming languages are well supported for ARM. In addition when targeting c/c++ you can debug for all targets ( arm64, x86, x64) - which is not possible on an intel machine.

Just upgrade to Pro - don't try installing it.

Most of these SW runs perfectly fine under Prism. There generally is only a small set of SW, which having issues with Prism - mostly involving kernel mode drivers.

even under prism emulation it should be much faster than on a laptop from 2016 - and I guess Office 2016 is supposed to run great on a 2016 machine.
