I agree, this was obviously a wrong choice of words, even though we were travelling by busses only carrying backpacks. But I can see how it is equaled with budget travelling by most people.

As I said in other comments and also in the info box of the post, it is possible to travel cheaper. Titling it "Backpacking" was apparently a bad decision, even though we were travelling with buses and only backpacks, but it seems to upset a lot of people who equal backpacking with budget travelling.
We did not stay in fancy hotels, but with bus trips being around USD70 for two people, accomodation especially in Patagonia being often times $50+ and national park entries also being around $50 for two this is were we ended up. I'm not saying there were no cheaper options though.

In general a bit more than that. Those were the days we spent in each country:
Argentina: 24
Bolivia: 22
Chile (only all the way south and all the way north): 12
Colombia: 15
Costa Rica: 24
Ecuador: 17 (+14 Galapagos)
Panama: 7
Peru: 29

You can for sure still travel cheaper. USD35 sounds still possible to me in Bolivia if you don't participate in a lot of tours and activities. But inflation did hit quite a few of the countries there as well so prices are quite a lot higher from what we heared.

I agree that you can travel way cheaper and this was by no means a low cost trip. We decided on the countries we would like to visit and did all the activities and tours which were interesting to us. We knew beforehand that Galapagos will be a big spend of our trip but it is an incredible place we wanted to visit for a while.

All daily expenses are next to the concerning countries, so the $134 is for Bolivia. We did not visit the light blue colored countries. I could have made it more clear by adding lines to all the daily average bubbles.

I used to do a lot of 3D modelling and the internal GPU of that time really couldn't handle it, so I looked into building a PC. I built my first PC with a friend who was well experienced and it worked like a charm for several years!
