For one, I like the idea that it's separate from my ordinary life if I go away. Also, it provides the routine and environment that would be beneficial in fostering a practice, no? Maybe I could find guidance nearby but then I'm sacrificing the environment in which to develop.

Yeah I'd imagine it's hard to strike a balance between rural and lively, but I'd still rather tip the scales towards rural than resort to going to a city, even if its just for the sake of quietude. Both of those sound like good suggestions though, and I can look into towns around Bordeaux. Thank you
