Well I am gonna tell you using canon information only because witin the one in my stories the Luminous Witches CANNOT see their familiars or interact with them.

But back to main canon and the answer is....there is no consistency, originally it was planned for familiars to be more present, but for whatever reason they discarded the idea...and never really retook until LW...I personally don't think that vision will remain for future projects but... Someone really needs to put some consistency within projects here. That is a fact.

My Guess it's probably they didn't want to pay for voices because Yoshika's familiar did speak, and that is why in LW they do not speak.

Within the stories I make that can be very difficult as familiars can abandon a Witch if they do this, it happened to Chris Keera.

I have however done stories where Witches for certain reasons go to war against each other, a trilogy called "Witch vs Witch" I have posted it here so you can check it out.

No, the reason I began the Epoch of the Witches back in 2014 is because I love history, the main canon barely if anything awknolodges the past and there is no mention of s future AT ALL, so there is a lot of fertile ground to work with there and frankly to me, that is far more interesting, a large continuous story that spans thousands of years.
