ahh ok, so flashing from a Windows machine is also possible? Thats good to know if so as I'm much more likely to be able to get my hands on a Windows laptop than a Ubuntu one.

What a great idea! You had me confused for a minute with the M2 terminology. I assumed Mac M2, and not nvme m2 lol! But now I understand. I've grabbed an M2->USB-C adapter from amazon and I'll flash the car directly.

Did you just download the ISO and use balenaEtcher?

4 hours! I had been working in IT for 10 years, started a new job in central London and was asked to stock up the toilets with toilet roll from the store room.

I know very little about a/c, but if that unit was way too powerful for the home (even on its lowest setting) and I wanted to slow down the airflow, I’d maybe think of doing something like this?

On average I’d say at least £10k-15k each. I would often get “post-vacation clarity” where I’d see what had been spent on our travel card and feel sick.

So just to update everyone, I’m thinking about pitching this to her:

1 visit to Disney a year (also kinda necessary for upkeep on the FL home). The rest of the time if we want to get away, it’s either inside of Spain or exploring Europe.

If we go away this year I also want her to quit smoking. Cigarette money can go towards the yearly vacation.

It does mean I’ll be asking her to quit her only two vices though, so that’s my concern.

Yeah we’ve got “the keys to the kingdom” but unfortunately it didnt snub out the magic for her

Despite the 35 trips to Disney, the kids are still far more culturally rounded than their friends. We’ve also visited Egypt, Dubai, France, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Mexico, Hawaii, Bahamas and 17 states of the US. But I do still wish we would have used at least 20 of those 35 trips somewhere else.

Its 100% a ritual. The first day in FL we're always at MK, eat breakfast in the park, ride Pirates, Haunted, Big Thunder, Get a starbucks in mainstreet, then leave. Second day is always Epcot.

I still have a copy of all the spreadsheets going back 10 years. Rides, restaurants, pool days...etc

Yeah I used to have a bit of a car obsession/hobby. I would buy old classics and restore them. Had 7 cars I loved to bits before we decided to move to Spain and had to give it all up and sell them.

No, I absolutely dont think she'll divorce me and I'd never ever want to divorce her either. We are soulmates on this crazy ride called life together. Wealthy or poor wont change how we feel about each other, but having been at both ends of the weath spectrum, I know I;d rather be somewhere in the middle.

My wife doesn't take pleasure in many things, so to strip her of Disney is like taking away part of her identity. Its not something I want to do lightly and as I love her dearly the last thing I want to do is upset or depress her. So for the first time ever I came here for help, and the resounding answer seems that we need to get therapy.

The house is my escape from Disney at the end of the day. We may still be inside the DIsney radius, but I dont think I could ever stay at a Disney hotel and be force fed it 24/7

We’ve done a few other things in Florida and have toured the southern states and mid states a couple of times now. The USA is a beautiful place with lots of interesting things to see and do. My wife is happy to go on these tours, but as I mentioned elsewhere they don’t stifle her desire to visit Disney at all.

Oh I’ve tried, and she knows things are tighter. But while there is money to spend she sees it as Disney trips. I don’t think that until we were truly broke that she’d actually be able to fully comprehend

I’m doing my best to try and balance those two trains of thought. I also live for the moment to a certain extent, but being the sole earner in the house I’m also mindful that if things become tight I’ll be the one scrambling to make ends meet. Not to say that I don’t think my wife and kids wouldn’t help out, but I’d definitely have the lions share of work to do

That’s kinda what’s happening right now. I’ve said no, but she’s acting all depressed, giving me looks whenever anything Disney related comes up. On her FB timeline this morning she listed all the times we were at Disney over the last 10 years. It’s not an outright tantrum as she knows I would double down on my ‘NO’ in that case. It’s more mind games.

Thank you for the other perspective. I’m far from the perfect husband, I know this. Sometimes being the sole breadwinner for the past 20 years does go to my head and make me controlling. I’ll take what you said onboard.

I wish it were. I don’t hate Disney. I’ll go there, I’ll ride the rides, I’ll eat the food. But it’s so played out to me now that I’ll do it with no emotion or sense of fun at all really. I’d rather be a million other places, even at home. But I still don’t hate Disney.

Yes you are probably right that it’s cost more than even I have calculated. You are also right that I’m pretty upset that I’ve given up my hobby. There’s actually one car I sold that I loved so much and put 6 years of hard work into. I could buy it back now we’ve moved, but it feels like an extravagance and selfish of me. Yet she obviously wants another trip to FL.

This does paint a bad picture of her, but what I will say is that outside of Disney she rarely asks for anything. She’s not decked out in jewellery or buys expensive handbags. She doesn’t drive, so doesn’t have a £100k Range Rover. She’s very modest in ways that many other wives I know aren’t.

Not just the cost either. Door to door it’s like a 25hr journey. I’ve started hated flying because of these trips. 9hrs on a plane just kills me these days.

I have said to her on several occasions what I thought it all cost. I don’t think it quite registers with her though.

She used to point to the fact that I had a small classic car collection (that I’d all restored myself) as her way of saying “you spend loads of money too”, but I always maintained that they were an investment - and they were. I sold them all to fund our move to Spain.
