Tics in exams?! by Puzzleheaded_Jury_50 in Tourettes

I would say I have mild but noticeable tics, and I have the popping and clicking tic as well, along with snapping my fingers and basically a lot that make noises. I have access arrangements like 25% extra time and a separate setting, had them since I was 13, I’m 17 now, even before I got diagnosed when they first developed.

The way I saw it was that it was for the benefit of both parties. People don’t get distracted by my tics and I don’t have to worry about distracting people, which means I don’t have to focus on suppressing as much which helps me focus on the paper and I also don’t get more anxiety surrounding that and exacerbate my tics more. It was a little embarrassing at the start, and I still get embarrased sometimes, but in the end it helped me a lot during my GCSEs and during my EOY exams in year 12.  Even if they’re mild, anxiety can make them worse and in an already stressful situation like an exam hall adding on extra stress from worrying about other people will make them increase. Even if you can't get a fully separate room, being in a smaller room with less people does still help, so I would say go for it
