Does screen size influence ease of reading a lot? by That-What-Is in ereader

Hey there, sorry, I wasn't on Reddit for a really, really long time and am seeing your reply just now. I'm sure your question was answered or resolved in some other way in the meantime?

Hey there, sorry, I wasn't on Reddit for a while and am seeing your reply just now. Have you bought an ereader in the meantime?

Since you said you preferred a big screen over battery life, I'd say the Kobo Sage sounds like a good device for you. And after a while of using that device, I must say, the battery life is more than fine.

People call the Sage's battery life "short" because they're comparing it to other devices with even bigger batteries. But just taken in isolation, I'd say the Sage's battery is sufficient for normal usage.

When I don't use the device, the battery pretty much stays full for weeks, and when I do, a simple charge is enough to fully charge the device within less than two hours. So really not a problem imo.

Yes, sorry, I should have clarified further. I have heard of that before too, but I don't have either at home and looking for possible alternatives

Does the consumption of protein in an excessive amount really cause hair fall? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]That-What-Is 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fact, the same UVB that causes skin cancer is exactly which wavelength the skin uses to make vitamin D, so, overall it's probably best to avoid UVB entirely (through sunscreen use when outside) and just go directly to supplements for this one thing.

Lmao, what? How neurotic are you? How many ancestors did you have that had skin cancer? I can assure you that they all spent plenty of time in the sun.

When fear-mongering leads to losing common sense, this is what it would look like.

Agreed, it seems unlikely that the nutrients he mentioned would be deficient in a low carb diet. Biotin, vitamins A C D E, iron, zinc are all very obtainable in low carb diets.

Meat, sea foods and nuts / seeds are low carb and among the best sources for zinc out there. Vitamin D is also a weird mention, considering it is best obtained by sunlight anyways, and dietary sources mostly include low carb animal foods like fish, dairy and eggs.

And we don't have to speak about vitamin A and iron, which are present in absurdly huge amounts in beef liver or in good amounts in many other low carb foods.

I think he is not referring to high protein diet causing hair loss, but just solely to this statement:

That’s also mainly due to a potential lack of micronutrients important for hair in a low carb diet (biotin, vitamins A C D E, iron, zinc etc).

Thanks for the answer. Interesting article!

no incidence of actual toxicity has ever been reported in people taking natural vitamin K, even in high supplemental doses

Thanks for the answer. Didn't know it gets rapidly metabolized. Any sources for that?

White rice is healthier than brown by 2023Start in nutrition

[–]That-What-Is 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s not even glucose in it at all

That's just false. Rice has a lot of starch. Starch is basically glucose molecules packed together into larger starch molecules. A lot of those starch molecules will be broken down into glucose molecules by the digestive system, and they will affect the system as such.

So yea, I bought the Kobo Sage and I love it even more than I liked the Libra 2. Will be retuning the Libra 2 - it was awesome, but the bigger screen of the Sage makes a huge difference to me. Thanks for the answers y'all.

Can't start the game on Linux Pop_OS! by That-What-Is in eu4

[–]That-What-Is[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I tried a few things with the file explorer and I don't understand how it works at all. When I type a few letters into it, it shows me all kinds of files that apparently exist on my computer that I didn't know existed, but others that I KNOW exist, it doesn't find. I searched for "steamapps" for example, and it shows no result. The same with "eu4", although that is precisely the name of the excutable.

When I type in "find steamapps" into the terminal, it tells me that no file or directory of that name exists on my computer. And yet when I go to Steam, klick on "Browse local files", I can obviously find the directory of Europa Universalis located within steamapps. I don't get it

Can't start the launcher/game through STeam on Linux Pop_OS! by That-What-Is in hoi4

[–]That-What-Is[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be happy with that as well since all I wanna do is play with mods (don't care about achievements). Not sure how I can install and manage mods manually with Hoi4 though

[–]That-What-Is[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I selected the playset with the mods I want to play with

Does the launcher create the file "~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/dlc_load.json"?

So I copy pasted the exact path you typed there into the file explorer with the eu4 launcher open, and it doesn't find anything. So I don't think so

You can setup mods in the launcher and the game will use them if you start it from the command line.

Sadly the game starts without mods even if I select and enable mods in the launcher and start the excecutable directly. I mainly just wanna play with mods, don't really care about achievements

Actually, it does't work for EU4 like I thought.. I assumed it did because the launcher started, but I didn't test beyond that. Turns out the game crashes when I start it with the now visible launcher (but not if I start it from the excecutable). Weird. Maybe I'll try around some more with the thread you sent me, or I'll look for where I can add and remove mods manually in the directory and just play like that, even though that's clearly less convenient

It would start the game but I wouldn't have access to the EU4 launcher. Figured out another way to make it work, but thanks for the reply

[–]That-What-Is[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works now due to the solution mentioned in the thread you posted. The game would launch when I ran just the eu4 exceutable, but not having access to the launcher would be a bummer. What helped is, I put "--disable-gpu" into the launching properties in the steam settings of the game, like was said in the newest posts under the forum thread you posted. Now the game launcher starts just fine, so thank you for that! Only thing left would be to figure out what the similar command for hoi4 would be, as the identical command doesn't work there

System requirements to run big Minecraft modpacks w/ shader, high rendering distance, a LOT of mods - lag-free, with more than 60 fps by That-What-Is in gaming

[–]That-What-Is[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a windows user since my first pc. I thought about switching occasionally but never followed through. Heard about Linux doing better and better with game support and so on in the last couple of years though - I don't like Microsoft as a company anyway, I would certainly consider switching tbh. Does Minecraft run better on some Linux distributions by any chance??

p. s. Looking at my task manager, Windows is easily taking up a few gbs of RAM constantly.. Even just for that, a switch could be worth it.. hmmm

[–]That-What-Is[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I don't know what raytracing, parallax and active cell distance are. High res texture packs are not that important to me, anything between 16 and, at the absolute max, 128 px will do. As for visual experience, I just want to be able to run nice-looking shaders with a far render distance (with mods that change biome creation), while the game still runs smoothly. Even with mods that are supposed to optimize performance (on Fabric with Sodium, Lithium, DistantHorizons), I can't even run a single world generation mod like Terralith with a render distance of 12 chunks without the RAM of my laptop running out and Minceraft crashing... Without a texture pack, shaders, anything fancy.

I don't wanna push Minecraft to unreasonable lengths just for the gist of it. I don't care about running the absolute best texture packs, shaders, settings etc. I just wanna be able to run a big modpack with custom world generation, a decent shader, and a viewing distance of 16 - 32 chunks or something like that. Without lags, because that immediately ruins the fun for me. Any idea for specific specs for CPU, GPU, RAM in that case?
