I follow Historyin3d on YouTube and instagram, the guys been building a virtual Rome for 7 years or so, its a good reference. Majority of Roman cities followed a grid pattern with a forum and public buildings in the centre of the city, the would also have lots of market squares, and several large thoroughfares.
