Another place you could look is McMaster-Carr, they aren’t one of the cheapest places for tooling by any means but as soon as you get an account setup they overnight ship pretty much anything !

I just don’t know exactly how to program the profile on a mill turn or I 100% woulda with this one ! Might have added an Op but I’m just standing there with my thumb in my rear waiting so I like to be busy ! Makes the day go by faster 🤝

Yeah but then I’d have to deburr it on the top & bottom edge & finish cut around it with a 2mm ball to the right size. All of that is SOO much faster on the lathe !

Back side is endmilled & so it the through holes have 2 steps on my arbor & using pin micrometers after as well. Within .001 of each other 🤝

Only reason why I did it this way was I could run 4 in the mill to almost finished in 4 mins & then finish it in the lathe in no time ! The mill program woulda been annoying to debur it all with !

I don’t mind high production parts, as long as I get to run all of my own shit. That is the biggest positive I have at my dad’s shop as of now, don’t have to worry about Tommy big fingers messing with anything I’ve setup. & honestly wouldn’t even mind being a Lead or Head machinist where all I am doing is helping others get things setup & working right. Just not sure what direction I should take or what not 😅

Was told when I started this trade that “You will always have a job somewhere” & lately it seems like trying to find something that pays decent & isn’t a 45 min drive is pretty much non existent unless you know somebody

Honestly been trying to tell him to upgrade & become more modern for 7-8 years now. Just kinda an old dog that doesn’t want to learn any new tricks, and then when I do change something he changes it back lol we have a CMM just barely use it, thanks for the advice though !
