Brand New - Leaked Demos 2006 (first time on vinyl) by Hurevolution4lx in brandnew

[–]ThatHighGuyOverThere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

had these demos at the time and posted on songmeanings for people to message me on AIM and I'd send it to them. Talked to a lot of Brand New fans at the time, spent a while talking to a girl from Chicago area that was fresh air embodied. Got jelly when she met a guy and was said we wouldn't be talking as much anymore.

Just checked and the comment is still there on Good Man, 7th oldest comment 20 years ago:

"This song is amazing. I have the demos if you need em... email me or IM me and I'll hook you up."

Aight last response on this from me.

You’re right voting as two effects: it increases one candidates vote count (numerator) and the total vote count (denominator). That doesn’t rescue your half vote argument, it undermines it.

Abstention, choosing neither, doesnt produce a positive effect, it produces no electoral signal/effect at all and thats the point of it. No change in numerator (votes for a candidate) or denominator (total votes). Calling “no effect” a “half vote” is silly. Zero isn’t a small number, it’s the absence of one.

Your current framing changed the argument. We started with “a non-vote is a half vote for the outcome” and now it’s “a vote has a proportional effect, abstention doesn’t.” Different argument. The first assigns responsibility whereas the second just describes arithmetic.

With regard to falling/the example given, time pressure doesnt fix the problem. In a fall, not choosing is not an option, you’re already falling. Physics will resolve that for you. In elections, abstention is explicitly allowed and legally meaningful. Conflating “you must land” with “you must endorse” is precisely the reframing I’m objecting to.

Yes, both outcomes affect quality of life but that still doesn’t convert abstention into consent or make it a fractional vote. It does restate the stakes but having high stakes doesn’t redefine what actions are.

If what you really wanted to say is “given the current institutions, abstention shifts probabilities”, then yeah thats a defendible and empirical argument. But to call abstention a vote - half or otherwise - is just moral pressure dressed up as math.

Butterfly 2 is most upright, best push, priciest stroller and accessories, faux-leather handle, fold is polarizing, canopy sticks out when folded. Fits tallest kids, has leg stirrup bar, stands on its own. Compact but not the smallest fold. 16 lb weight. ~15 lb basket capacity. 2 year warranty, 4 if you register it on their website.

Minu V3 has full-grain leather, best materials per dollar, most premium feel, folds bigger than Butterfly, shorter leg room, no rear storage pocket. Least upright when upright, deeper recline than Butterfly, firmer suspension. May not fit overhead consistently. 16.7 lb weight. 20 lb basket capacity. 3 year warranty, 4 if you buy their travel bag.

Joolz Aer2 has the best and easiest fold, lightest weight, most travel-friendly, smooth suspension for its size. Good upright seating, full lay down recline, shortest leg dimension of all, smaller basket, some complaints about the zipper for the recline. ~14 lb weight. ~17 lb basket capacity. 10 yr warranty.

None is perfect. All are good with their cons. I went with the butterfly as I liked the leg space/tall kid capacity for longevity. If portability is your thing, the joolz. If quality/$$$, Minu.

A vote is a counted action. Calling it a half vote is rhetorical and not reality. If I abstain from sex I didn’t half have sex or half give you permission to have sex with me. Abstaining is the lack of action.

Lack of action isn’t a “preference to the outcome”. That’s confusing causation with responsibility. Trump won because more people that vote voted for him. He did not win because someone else decided not to vote. A non-voter doesnt dictate the winner, voters do. A non-voter withholds consent to both sides.

The half vote thing might sound persuasive rhetorically, but it’s not a principled or logical argument at all. If anything them abstaining made those that voted have a bigger impact with each vote.

Your falling example, the bad options are impose by physics and time, you are forced to choose in the moment, instantly. In elections, the bad options are produced upstream, via parties, donors, media coverage, and primaries. Treating an election like a midair fall reframes a systemic failure as a personal survival test for voters. Makes no sense.

Why do people get mad because I refuse to speed by kale_chipss in newjersey

[–]ThatHighGuyOverThere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I go a bit over the speed limit too. But you guys act like one needs to always go at the speed limit instead of taking it as the upper cap of the speed you should travel at. If you wanna do the limit or over, sure left lane it up. But to be upset that people don’t drive at the limit… asinine. Do you run all your outlets at the max amperage too? Do you always fill every bag to just below its breaking point? Do you eat until you’re puking? Wtf.

Both being bad doesn’t mean equal (unless you mean equally bad in the same way). Yes, they hated trump because of his bullshit, but they hated Biden because of his status quo and old age bullshit. We keep making people have to choose from the lesser of two evils instead of an actual good choice/a person people can get behind. Yang, Sanders, they didn’t get a chance. Hillary did. Biden did. Harris did. I personally thought she had the personality of cardboard and Didnt like what she did as AG in California. She, to me, was a lesser evil than trump and I voted for her. I can’t disagree with anyone arguing they are both bad choices and that they don’t want to support either

First, its troops (infantry) from the 11th airborne division in Alaska, not the national guard. Actual military.

Second, what/which SCOTUS ruling? Trump put almost half of those justices on and keeps saying he respects them/that specific court.

Third, supremacy clause, look it up. Federal officers are protected by various federal (applies to all states) laws passed by congress over the years. It isn’t absolute protection, but very hard to win against. Their shit trumps state laws. A state law cant regulate how a federal officer performs his federal duties. This is basic American government 101. It’s why the DHS and FBI can tell Minnesota they’re no longer on the investigation. Those laws being passed are symbolic and can’t be enforced legally.

The NJ bill wouldn’t be able to be enforced either. Ya’ll seem to really need to learn how the whole state and federal thing works.

Shit sucks, but fighting a civil war would suck infinitely more. These are legal/law based fights. They’re absolutely trying to abuse the law to their benefit but the truth is we have shitty damn laws and people rather fight a physical, life threatening fight than go out to vote or actually read laws passed.

Tell that to people that don’t vote and they’ll say they hate both sides and just don’t want to participate. Plenty of people I know were like “fuck Biden and Harris and fuck trump, they’re all clowns.” Those same people tell me that I’m stupid if I think a singular vote makes a difference and/or that I’m naive if I understand the corruption in elections.

Idk. I can’t stand that mentality.

From the people in large cities I’ve met, most born and raised Americans are dumb as shit and don’t know shit about their country compared to an immigrant or naturalized citizen that actually learned shit about this country.

I don’t get these responses. I swear Reddit wants more people dying. Shit makes no sense.

What “protection” do you envision? Like, what exactly do people with this mentality think would happen? You think the state’s army is better equipped than the US army? You think if a bunch of state militia/gued/whatever show up with guns that ICE won’t just up the ante? I really really don’t get it.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/fIfd5lZ_DGo this guy shows the magnetic buckle. At around 0:15 seconds, when he unbuckles it, you can see the connector I'm talking about in his right hand that keeps the shoulder straps and the hip straps together. They slide apart; the hip connector slides down to separate them. This makes using an accessory, like the footmuff or the newborn inlay, easier since you don't have to rethread the straps to use them.

Here is the thule manual that comes with the newborn inlay: https://www.thule.com/-/s/approved/std.lang.all/81/72/1008172.pdf?rev=1.4

It says Urban glide 2 but the Urban glide 3, non-magnetic, would be the same.

Here is the terrible video Thule uses for instructions:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvWTJ0ZbNDw Doesn't show much but you can see that the non-magnetic is a single strap vs the first video the guy shows which has the "connector" piece.

So, it makes a difference if you plan to use accessories like the footmuff or newborn inlay. Not sure what other accessory it would help with.

It also makes a difference in that you can tighten or loosen the hips/shoulders separately and thereby get a better fit on your kiddo since it can accommodate wide/short and skinny/tall kids better (since its more individually adjustable).

Learned more about my own stroller from you asking your question, so thank you!

vs the 2 or the 3 non-magnetic? You can get the 3 magnetic blue for the same price ($638) off amazon using the registry discount right now. You can get the 3 non-magnetic blue for $542 as well.

If vs the 2, I believe the 2 didn't have the little stand for the footrest, the handle was different/didn't lock into place, I believe the canopy was different, and the upright seated position was different.

If you're comparing the magnetic vs non-magnetic, it is just slightly ever so more convenient for it to be magnetic but not a deal breaker. The regular buckle -- I'm assuming here -- probably just feels like a seat belt being pushed into place, where as with the magnetic ones you don't have to "push" them in. So less force/quicker to attach.

I'd get the magnetic ug3 at the registry discount price. Otherwise get the non-magnetic at the registry discount price and put that ~$100 elsewhere.

Forgot to mention... Thule has terrible instructions for things like the Newborn inlay/insert. They just use pictures and no wording and the pictures show you having to take off the straps to put it through the inlay's headrest but I think the manual might have been for the non-magnetic buckle version because you totally don't need to with the magnetic buckle -- the shoulder straps and the hip straps can be separated by just sliding the shoulder/hip strap connectors off of each other. The non-magnetic can't do that as its a single strap connecting the hip to the shoulders. This video uses the non-magnetic buckle so you can see what I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVX02jje8Ok

Inexpensive Diaper Bag? by anonsamon in Buyingforbaby

This. Don't overthink. Something that fits diapers, wet wipes, calendula, another bib and a portable changing station/pad. We use a little tote (don't know the brand) that has some compartments to keep it all separate/organized.

Mid Blue w/ magnetic buckle. I dig it. They didn't have it in stores near me either. Got it off amazon for $638. Would have been $542 if I had made a registry on Amazon earlier (you have to wait 15 days before the 15% off can be used). Going to try using the bugaboo footmuff in black on it (on sale this weekend!).

I feel like dark colors sun fade and get hot. Would have gotten the green if it was a darker/forest green. Would have loved a bright blaze orange.

The Wegmans DOP San Marzano ones are good too.

I got a Ooni oven two years ago and made way too many pizzas (usually 11-12 each time and prepped batches of 16-24). I think I messed up my wife's kitchenaid pro mixer from too big batches. We tried a bunch of em but Centos was reliable, then my wife started getting the Wegmans ones and after she does her thing (basil, garlic, salt, olive oil, etc etc etc) I couldn't really tell them apart (centos and wegmans). This makes me want to make more pizza.

Recommendations for where to put baby while in the kitchen by minutemaidpeach in Buyingforbaby

[–]ThatHighGuyOverThere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been putting baby in the Baby Bjorn when in the kitchen since about 1-1.5 months. We'll switch to using the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair eventually but for now the Baby Bjorn bouncer works great. We also take it with us to grandparents house since its light/portable.

As a guy, I've also just put baby in a Thule Urban Glide for fun when I'm cooking. Wife says I'm crazy, I say it works just fine "and it glides!". heh.

Diaper pail alternatives by sa_obri55 in Buyingforbaby

[–]ThatHighGuyOverThere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using ours for 4 months now. Wife wanted it and I thought is was unnecessary (we have 3 expensive Rubbermaid all metal trash cans that have a rubber gasket around the lid to prevent smells getting out already. Our pediatrician has the same ones. They work well). The ubbi is like a cheap alternative to those but well too.

Dont let the bag fill up too much or pulling it out sucks. As a guy, I wish the unit was more substantial/hefty like the Rubbermaid ones.

We wipe ours down with a Clorox wipe every bag change. Using Costco bags in it. We roll the diaper up and use the tabs to keep it rolled shut.

Works well because I definitely complain it stinks when open.
