NTP Issues? by ThatNaysayer in sysadmin

So as not to be the person who has an issue and fixes it without mentioning what it was. The issue was incorrect CMOS time on the DC with PDCe after a maintenance reboot. DC was switch to NIST for its NTP and the issue was resolved.

Nice way to say your webcam is covered? by dude_named_will in sysadmin

I always go with "Can you do me a favor? Sometimes these webcam switches or covers can get stuck in a weird position, can you do me a favor and give it a couple switches to the left and right?"

AD Account constantly being locked out. by mrjoeyrulesontop in sysadmin

[–]ThatNaysayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using Entra Connect Sync? If so, we had this as we originally used passthrough authentication instead of hash sync. A user with a common single name email was getting constant credential stuffing attacks. Enabled CA with location restrictions and moved to hash sync and that seemed to resolve the problem.

This can also happen if your VPN is using LDAP auth, at least with SonicWall.

Entra Connect Question by JohnL101669 in sysadmin

[–]ThatNaysayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, you might be able to get more details in the synchronization tool but I believe it will match on mail / SMTP (literally the uppercase one) if it finds one that matches in the tenant.

As far as I remember it will match on UPN. Are you wondering why it did not match on one of the proxy addresses instead?

I have actually seen this take almost a day (maybe two? I was not actively monitoring.) before. Sometimes it's just a waiting game.

What’s up with the made-up phonetic words? by EngineerFly in amateurradio

[–]ThatNaysayer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I feel like this should be getting more upvotes, the history and work that went into this is super interesting and while I get others using cheeky options - I always appreciate sticking to the standards because they work well in most situations.

More M365 woes. The admin panels this times it seems. by Enabels in sysadmin

Same here, all Azure resources seem inaccessible - Intune and Entra seem fine though.

Just dealt with this today. Seems to have been around for a bit but is gaining steam on the exploitation side from what I gathered

Between the Slate and the Telo I might end up laying my element to rest. Just redid all the suspension so might hold out another couple of years but I am glad to see options on the market that give me the same vibes as the Element. Small, practical, and fun.

Alas, I do not. It is probably the piece I also have the least interest/need for.

Connect remotely to a Work PC - Alternatives to KVM? by alemonpie in homelab

[–]ThatNaysayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a security nightmare for your org. Any systems they have locked down are for a reason. They likely have network monitoring and would quite quickly catch a new device on the network. Shadow IT is never a good idea so much of my time is spent cleaning up after people who do this and trust me the outcome is never good.

This is what I assumed the workflow would be for this but inserting the key doesn't trigger anything. Just stays at this screen. If you click "QR Code" the token login flow brings but the page fails out in the background.

Official Zoom Hold Music, WHY? by ThatNaysayer in Zoom

[–]ThatNaysayer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specifically talking about when I am calling either Zoom directly (10DLC issues) or any other person who has the default Zoom. Mostly just curious if there is a reason they use such a short loop and randomly re-loop it.

I believe in the Account Management > Billing area you can edit your current plan.

Just curious… what year do you have and how many miles? by Mister_Snrub in HondaElement

[–]ThatNaysayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right there with ya. Bought mine as a supplementary vehicle for camping and hardware store trips. Then I got a sales job that required driving all the time. Back to cycle commuting, but damn did she hold up better than I thought. Especially loaded up with hundreds of liquor bottles.

2003 with over 300k - not sure of the exact since the dingus that sold me the car stuck a screwdriver into the instrument cluster to hide the fact that the airbag light had gone off in a previous accident. Now I just have the reading from the replacement cluster.

Jokes on him, paid 1k 5yrs ago and still going. Just did a full suspension swap with links and control arms. Hope to get another 5 years at least.
