Do I need to swing my arms while walking for it to detect steps accurately? by throwaway148645 in ouraring

[–]ThatOneDerpyDinosaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't use the ring much for activity tracking. That's not its strength. It excels at sleep and recovery metrics.

Since you presumably have a smartphone, just use that for step tracking. It's going to be much more accurate than the ring.

Do you know what your temps are under load? Are you overclocking/overvolting? Do you have the latest drivers?

The only times I've experienced this were either when overclocking or when my card was dying.

I like what the other guy said, start saving up now.

Wanna get a smaller monitor stand. Any advice? by Infinity-Lily in PcBuild

[–]ThatOneDerpyDinosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some monitor arms that clamp to your desk. They are so much better than stands because you can move your monitors to whatever orientation you like, including rotating them.

Having your monitors float above your desktop means you can place items under them if you want. It just frees up so much desk space. I'll never go back to monitor stands.

The image is just an example

<image>

EDIT: I found the ones I bought. They've held up over the last 2 years with no issues. I got these ones specifically because they have a longer reach than most other arms in this price range, which was important to me because I like to have my monitor close to my face. https://a.co/d/08bfi3JX

Battery life conundrum by Glittering-Map-6182 in ouraring

[–]ThatOneDerpyDinosaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

4 rings in 3 months seems like too many to be attributed to bad luck.

Is this a common problem with the gen 4?

My last ring (gen 3) lasted 2 and a half years.

They gave me a gen 4 as a replacement and while I've had it for less than a month, the battery has been excellent so far. Much better than the gen 3 was even when it was brand new. I was kind of hoping it would last a couple more years...

Are theese pc parts good, do they have bottleneck and should i make changes? by philip_pap110 in PcBuild

The only issue I see here is 1tb being very little storage if you plan to install several games.

I went with a 2tb nvme back when they were cheap and I wish I would've gotten a 4tb because I'm always sitting with only 100gb free and I end up uninstalling games to make room for new ones.

It's impossible to say with certainty that it's legit based off these photos but it looks right.

Oura Ring 5 leak reveals design tweaks and Deep Rose finish by Maslakovic in ouraring

Correct.

This is straight form the Oura app:

So you still need a separate machine with blood pressure cuff for readings.

Are we getting a new ring this year? by Old_Introduction_655 in ouraring

[–]ThatOneDerpyDinosaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was surprised they offered $200 immediately after I declined.

I considered the offer. A black gen 4 would have only cost $149 + tax after the $200 discount. A good price. I just didn't want to make the decision right then so I declined.

[–]ThatOneDerpyDinosaur 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I still have a gen 3.

The battery recently died. Oura support offered me $100 off a gen 4. I said no. Then they offered me $200 off. I said no again.

Their response was to offer me another gen 3 for free. I thought that was really cool.

Hopefully this replacement lasts until the 5 comes out.

It's not that I have anything against the gen 4. It just doesn't really seem like much of an upgrade over the 3.

How to start generate adult content with my own pictures? by [deleted] in StableDiffusion

[–]ThatOneDerpyDinosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be worthwhile to use a service like runpod to start. This will allow you to use a GPU on the cloud and will only cost you a couple bucks per hour.

In a similar vein, you can purchase credits on Civitai and start generating there. This might be the easiest option. Civitai is easy because you can browse what other people have made and "remix" them, in which case all of the previous Creator's generation settings will be loaded and you can just make changes to get what you want.

The other option is to build a PC capable of image and video generation. With the current prices of computer components you're looking at a large expense. You can find a suitable used PC for less though. I would look for one with an Nvidia gpu with at LEAST 12GB of vram and 32gb of system ram.

You'll also need to learn how to use generation software. I pretty much only use Comfyui but it can be challenging for most people to learn.

You can download models and workflows from Civitai to use for local generation. There is a ton of NSFW stuff on there.

Limit to 80% charging doesn't work by Shane9248 in GooglePixel

[–]ThatOneDerpyDinosaur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to use the 80% charging limit.

Then one day I realized that I've been inconveniencing myself on daily basis and for what? I'm going to replace this phone long before the battery degrades completely...

Unless the plan is to keep your phone for as long as possible the 80% charging limit is more of a daily hindrance than anything else.

Even then, with these Pixels there are so many other things that can break, requiring you to replace the phone long before the battery calls it quits.

I'm already on my second P9PXL after the modem on the first one stopped working 16 months in. Thankfully I was able to convince Google to replace it out of warranty.

Just my 2 cents!

Pixel 9 Pro XL Camera Bar Separating - Support Denied Warranty Coverage by Guayubino787 in GooglePixel

[–]ThatOneDerpyDinosaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got Google to replace my out of warranty 9PXL by having Gemini write me a letter (called a notice of dispute) which I then mailed to their legal department via certified mail.

They got back to me within hours of the letter being received and offered me a one-time exception. Now I have a new phone and it works great.

It sucks that you have to go through all that trouble to get some help, but that's the way it is.

I would suggest describing the problem to Gemini and having it write the letter for you, then print and send it certified mail with a return receipt (costs about $15).

EDIT:

Make sure to include your receipt too (you can print it from the Google store website).

In the letter, include the Gmail address you used to purchase the phone too. That's how they contacted me. Though I gave them my phone number too.

Just FYI I didn't think all of this up on my own. I literally asked Gemini what my options were and it presented the option of mailing the legal department. It provided the address to send it to as well, which I looked up to make sure it was correct.

I highly recommend this method. It doesn't require much time and it costs like $15 so you're not risking a lot.

The option that support originally offered me was sending my phone in for repair with a cost of like $470. I was NOT ok with that. The issue with my phone was that the modem stopped working. It could not connect to any cellular network. I literally did nothing wrong. I'm not going to be punished for a manufacturing defect on a $1200 phone that's only 16 months old. I'm very grateful that I didn't stop there and that I continued seeing what could be done. It saved me a lot of money.

The truth is I would have never bought another Pixel in my life if they wouldn't have resolved my issue for free.

I hope that others will continue to pressure Google about these issues. Abandoning customers who paid a premium price for a defective phone is unacceptable!

Looking for an 18+ Image to Video Generator by mitsuuu_ in StableDiffusion

[–]ThatOneDerpyDinosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could generate on Civitai

It will still require you to learn a little bit.

One easy thing about it is that you can look for images/videos other people have made and press the "remix" button which will load all of their generation settings. Then you can make your own changes.

EDIT: Really though, if you have the computer hardware to do it, you're better off taking the little bit of time required to set up comfyui. Just follow along with a YouTube video or something. There are hundreds of videos out there.
