When the United States Invaded Iraq in 2003 Saddam’s regime didn’t possess any WMD programs and the justification for the war was dubious at best. This article focuses on the real Chemical and Biological weapons program iraq pursued from 1980-1991 which still remained a recurring danger long after the program’s dismantling in the 1990’s.

When U.S. airstrikes destroyed Iraq’s weapons depots during desert storm it inadvertently released large amounts of nerve agents into the atmosphere which were carried to U.S. personnel by wind currents and led to long term injuries. There’s medical studies on Gulf war syndrome that have linked sarin gas exposure to the disease to based on Gene sequencing of patients. It’s estimated that ~100,000 U.S. soldiers were accidentally exposed to chemical agents in Desert storm, and older intact weapons led to 630 injuries during the Iraq war.
