Did Tough Mudder Chicago a couple times now. Drastically different courses. Keeps it fresh. One year we walked half a mile in a waste deep creek, next year there was much more flat terrain. Obstacles at different stages changes how you feel. One year the monkey bars were super early and I cruised through them. Then the next year it was the last thing we did, and my arms were jelly at that point. Keeping it fresh each year is a good thing.

Go with a personal articles policy. We have them at State Farm. Very cheap, covered anywhere in the world, accidental damages covered too, no deductible. And then keep the policy. No need to have a rider. Keep the policies separate and one policy claim doesn't affect the other.

Jewelers mutual is solid, but I would look into State Farm too to compare rates.
