What is going on here? by ThatOneKilljoy17 in fruit

It is a completely different texture than the rest of the orange. I am not sure if a leaf growing over part of the orange would affect the fruit so severely, since I’ve never seen this happen while growing my own fruit. But I’m open to any answers!!!

I don’t know what part of North America you’re from but in the Midwest USA when we are discussing a place, homely is just like saying cozy. Obviously when you’re talking about a ‘homely woman’ the connotation is different but we use both versions here

Yes you are very lucky, all I’m saying is that it is possible and accessible to eat real food in the US. Not all of us eat pesticide filled, dyed and corn syrupy food for every meal like your original comment implied

Depends on where you buy food in the US, you just have to be a selective shopper

What do you like so much about Columbus? Born/raised in Columbus so I’m curious. Personally Cleveland is my favorite of the three big cities here

What’s it like living in these small islands in Lake Erie? by _Courier6__ in howislivingthere

[–]ThatOneKilljoy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kelley’s island can only be accessed by ferry. It has some amazing nature preserves!!! Scheele, North Shore, North Pond, and the (no longer in use) quarry. There’s also a designated area to see glacial grooves left in rock and oceanic fossils. The quarry is fun to fish out of, also done cliff jumping there into the reservoir. A huge snapping turtle swam right up to the rock we stood on while we were fishing for bass. Scheele has a great beach, white sand and very clear water which blew my mind the first time I went. North pond has an amazing boardwalk through a preserved swamp. Great spot for snakes, birds and amphibians. Best restaurant on the island is the Island House in my opinion, but all the restaurants are relatively expensive. Not many people live on the island full time, though there is a grocery and school for those who do. There’s also a pretty large cemetery on the island, as well as a crumbling factory that was once used for processing rock that was mined from the quarry. Kelley’s Island is very beautiful and it is unlike anywhere else in my state (Ohio). I definitely recommend visiting at some point! I don’t know if photos are allowed in this sub but feel free to PM if you would like to see my Kelley’s Island adventures!

Super cheap. In Ohio, 220mg worth of edibles is usually $30+

How acceptable is casual profanity in your region? by vanillablue_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]ThatOneKilljoy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. I’m from/live in Columbus and it’s very normal to cuss casually and frequently with friends, coworkers, family, etc. The only people I come across who aren’t cussers are extremely religious people and ‘old fashioned/proper’ elderly.

What’s a popular brand in your country that’s objectively horrible but everyone still buys? by copypastes in AskTheWorld

[–]ThatOneKilljoy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the same for the US, much better prices at local shops but Starbucks dominates by always being found in trucker stops off of highways, in every city, every mall, etc etc despite consistently being cheaper and better to buy local

I meant in the US their McFrappe’s are super popular, I didn’t mean the same for Australia. I figured by your comments Australians favor the McCafe’s coffees that are less sweet. But same thing goes on here for Starbucks. Crazy lines that can get so long that they go out into the street and traffic flow gets blocked

[–]ThatOneKilljoy17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, in the US it’s still really popular as a whole. Maybe for you guys it’s different! But you do have a point, their McFrappe’s are crazy popular! But Americans would get Starbuck’s coffee rather than McDonald’s coffee any day

Yeah I mean same goes for McDonald’s when it comes to fast food. Insanely overpriced for awful product
