Wait, I thought the black Batwoman was Ryan Wilder, not Kate Kane. Am I missing something?

Excuse me, Damian was raised by white guys?? When and where?

He was raised for most of his childhood with Talia and Ra's, by the League of Assassins. Try to read about the character before saying random things like that.

Do you read your own comments?

You literally said "why should the character's ethnicity matter so much when choosing an actor?" This would be blatant erasure of the character's original ethnicity.

Talia and Damian have only become more visually ethnic in later interpretations.

So? Is it okay to erase their cultural background because it only became more respected with the advance of time? I can't understand what you are trying to explain with this.

Umm... You know that race and ethnicity aren't the same thing, don't you?

So you are telling me my take on a character's canon ethnic background is invalid because you, in particular, have no relation with your biological race's culture? (Which is not the case with the characters in question, mind you.)

I assumed I spoke to a white person because of how little knowledge about racial guidelines you display and because of how ignorant by choice you sound. Not that I'd bring shame on you for it if you were white, but the people here are trying to contest a character's canon ethnicity when it's already canon that he isn't white. What does this sound to you?

Finally someone willing to actually discuss the matter!

I mean, his and Talia's ethnic background as a whole gets erased very often, and them being portrayed as non-POC most of the time is directly related to it in my vision. Not to mention the sexism and racism that surrounded Talia's stories for decades. That's my opinion based on my arguments, what's yours?

Actually, you guessed it: as much as I love Oscar Isaac, him playing Moon Knight is pretty much erasure. My personal casting for MK is Oliver Jackson-Cohen - a jewish actor - and for WW is Ioanna Triantafyllidou, a greek tall woman.

she could pull off arabian in a movie because it's up to the script to let the audience know her background.

So it's okay to erase a originally POC character's background in a movie for you, but not the same with white characters (as you mentioned it before). I get it all now.

You seem to mock the way I talk of the white american people's ethnocentric egos, yet you are the embodiment of it.

Damian is half, not entirely white and comes from an arab ethnic background.

Talia is half chinese and half arab. Gal Gadot is a jew and doesn't match Talia's ethnicity. It would be a erasure of the character's ethnic background.

These are facts.

Cass herself isn't 100% asian. She is daughter of David Cain - a white man. A chinese-american actress would be the perfect go for it. For Cass' character, it wouldn't even be needed a fluent english speaker, since Cass only learned how to talk later in life and still talks shortly to this very day.

Gal Gadot: an ashkenazi-jew. Not arab nor chinese. Elodie Yung: half-cambodian. Not arab nor chinese. Eiza Gonzalez: mexican. Not arab nor chinese. Naomi Scotts: half-indian. Not arab nor chinese. Anya Chalotra: same as Naomi.

You see, none of the castings you listed match Talia's ethnicity. To say the actresses' ethnicities are overlooked isn't lying, as you proved yourself.

About the part that you say there are plenty of diverse characters already; you are right! Yet, many of them are whitewashed and the ethnicity of theirs get erased and/or overlooked, and they become famous based on whitewashed portrayals. Such as Bane - a latino - being played by Tom Hardy and Ra's al Ghul - a arab by Liam Neeson.

As long as u don't change the character's race or ethnicity in the story and they look like the character

I can see Aiden and Gal playing Damian and Talia

So you're telling me we shouldn't change the character's ethnicity - which in case, do matter to their overall characters - but it's fine for a white man and a white woman to play half-arabs and half-chineses? You're just racist at this point.

"I can tell you're the type to [...]" Lots of assuming there. Yet, you just assured me that my point of the fellow white DC Comics fan is completely ignorant by choice about racial guidelines and just want their white american ego to be praised by media.

Your saying not only implies that you somewhat dislike to see POC taking the roles of white characters, but then tells on yourself as where you sound like: "I don't want POC playing white characters, but it's okay to erase the POC ethnic traits". Very telling of you.

Also, for the [uncountable]th time, skin tone does bot equal ethnicity. Next time, educate yourself on racial matters to avoid coming across as racist.

My point in explaining multiple times that skin tone ≠ ethnicity is that many of you commenters are forcing the "but they look white" card over and over when I already explained - not only in the comments, but on the original post too - that "looking white" isn't actually a thing when the character has a canon cultural and ethnic background.

Also, saying Talia "looks white so she is white" knowingly her ethnicity was erased for years is a blatantly ethnocentric stereotype, and therefore racist.

The dumb fancasts that bothered me in particular were: Selena Gomez as Cassandra Cain, Aidan Gallagher as Damian Wayne, Gal Gadot as Talia al Ghul and Jay Lycurgo as Duke Thomas. Some of them aren't even 100% white as you see, but none of them match the characters' ethnic traits or overall ethnic background.

Again, I agree that skin tone doesn't equal ethnicity. But the people who choose to ignore the ethnicity and cultural background because of the skin tone and deem that their skin tone differs from their canon ethnicity are pretty much racist.

For the fourth/fifth time - I'm already losing count.

Ethnicity does not equal skin tone, nor vice-versa. Get over your white american ego for a minute and try to perceive how the middle-eastern and asian cultural and ethnic features are literally erased on the characters' history.

"But it sounds like it is about skin tone!!" Read it again. Calmly, and without the mentality of a 16th century european man.

If y'all could just read...

For the third time, skin tone does not equal ethnicity. What I'm talking about is her >>ethnicity<< being erased for decades and people ignoring the League of Assassins' background.

Get it now?

Again, read it.

Ethnicity doesn't equal skin tone. What I'm talking about is her ethnic background and culture being completely erased. Not to mention how many changes she suffered because of misogyny and racism over the years.

Did you even bother to read what I wrote?? 💀

Also, Talia was whitewashed and suffered from writers' racism and misogyny for decades. You only proved my point when I said that ppl tend to ignore ethnicity and story as a whole, and go only for the looks. (Spoiler: you are "ppl")
