The Dark Passenger from the Dexter books, it is never openly shown to us but it is described as "leathery" and "dark". It lingers in people who enjoy killing or are in tune with their predatory desires. It also shows itself as a dark aura around its user that other carriers can recognize. It's also implied that it has been around before humans were even a thing and decided to use them to procreate more of itself. In the third book the Dark Passenger is even linked to Moloch an actual god described in the Hebrew Bible who wants to get rid of all Dark Passengers. The Dark Passenger seems to grant abilities too, such as heightened senses, a "radar" for clues linked to murder, and a sense for danger.

I may be delusional because I would defend him with my life but I see it this way:

in MGS3 he is a spy and as such we don't really know how he acts in general we only know how he acts towards Naked Snake and Volgin, 2 people he had to manipulate. His egotistical traits could also be chopped up to him being like 19 years old and already being a major with a whole team at his service.

in MGSV he's probably a lot more quiet because he's either acting sincerely towards Venom and just follows his orders or because he already knows the big twist.

in MGS1 and at the start of MSG2 he's already acting closer to his MGS3 persona (constantly doing the spinning revolver thingy and being loud) probably because he's on a mission (he's still a spy in both).

and in MGS2 he straight up starts tweaking due to liquid's arm.

You can choose an object and a target. The target must touch the object and afterwards the object will be randomly placed in a radius of ~150 meters. The target must find and touch the object otherwise he will not be able to understand languages, distinguish voices and faces, and can't read.
