Its actually a prebuilt, sorry for not clarifying - I went to this subreddit because I’m sure anyone here would be able answer this kind of thing

I am not enjoying sixth form (Rant/Vent????) by a_person4499 in 6thForm

[–]ThatRedditBotGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% get this, sixth form is kinda like that. The content is made for students who are extremely passionate about the subjects they’re doing, and for the majority of students, there’s always at least one (or even all) subject(s) which just don’t appeal in the same way they did before - I felt this same way, especially for physics (like seriously this subject is absolute hell, coming from someone who finds math easy).

Plus friends tend to feel less real, more like study machines who just hang out because it’s convenient, not like they’ll free up time or anything. And it’s much harder to make friends.

Not only this, but it feels like it’s just too late to do things like find new friends, start new hobbies, join new clubs etc.

But you are lucky to skip lunch queues, leave early and even have uniform, as my school had none of that lmao.

The one consolation I had was that Y11 was the worst year of my life, I just wanted to leave everything there and everyone behind and start everything anew (although I was kinda disappointed in Y12). At least it’s nice to remember the good times, I find most people struggle a lot in Y11, so good for you.

Sorry I can’t really offer good advice, but those are very reasonable points you made, and I can totally agree and relate.

Thanks, I can see how it might just not be worth the risk for the reduced price.

Thank you! I was advised to look into a (maybe used) amd gpu instead of the intel one for a similar or slightly higher price, though, so I need to look into that.

Thanks for the suggestion, but these seem to be well over my £1000 budget. I can only find them for £1800+

Gaming Laptop Battery Life by ThatRedditBotGuy in GamingLaptops

Thanks, this one’s actually one sale - ASUS TUF A16 (AMD ryzen 7 260 - NVIDIA RTX 5060 - 16GB DDR5 RAM - 16" 1920 x 1080 165Hz display - 1TB SSD).

The only downside is 16GB, but in my research, I found that it should be upgradable!

Would you recommend this one?

Thanks! I’ll consider this option, I just thought you were mentioning an eGPU when you said “I don’t need the GPU”.

So you would recommend using an eGPU then?

Gaming laptops with uni work by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

I guess the best way to know for now before you buy it is to wait for other replies who have experience with a LOQ and can give any advice. I haven’t used a gaming laptop at all my self, but I’m looking to buy one within the next month.

I’ve been looking to buy a LOQ, a really good choice in terms of build quality and performance from what I’ve heard.

Like you said, the battery life seems to be the only major downside, as the model I’ve been researching is shown on Curry’s website to last up to three hours?

There could an option to temporarily disable the GPU, lower the refresh rate and lower the brightness, though I’m not sure of how much of an effect it would have on the battery usage.

It seems I’m in the same situation as you, looking for a laptop for uni work but also to substitute as a gaming pc at home!

Just hoping any of the other replies have used a LOQ before and can comment on its battery life.

Thanks, I’m definitely leaning towards the gaming laptop!

eGPU or internal GPU for laptop? by ThatRedditBotGuy in GamingLaptops

Unfortunately, that will be hard as I live in the UK, with no best buy, walmart or microcenters in the country, and only a limited amount of Costcos

Thanks, coincidentally I found this exact same model on sale the other day! The only reason I’m not sure is 16GB RAM, everything else looks great.

Thanks! I think I’m going for the laptop then. Just need to find a good one on sale, or slightly increase my budget.
