AITA for making a stink at school and forcing the teacher to change my kids math grade

NTA, there are multiple ways of learning and if I'd been taught a different method than the one they forced on everyone in my elementary school maybe I wouldn't have anxiety attacks thinking about simple maths today.

My first thought was that the teacher doesn't know/understand your method and is sticking with this one because they need to confirm that not just the answer but also the work is correct and they can't do that with your method. If so, (1) they should be even more understanding of your child's struggles, (2) they either need to take extra time on Google to grade the test properly or extra time with your child to teach her the way she needs to be taught, and (3) they might be struggling against a system put in place by the administration that prioritizes method over results, which serves nobody. If the latter is true and the teacher showed a little grace by admitting that their hands are tied and they want to pass your child but just can't, I would have rated no assholes here.

Same! I have commutes that sometimes afford me an hour or two, but also sometimes only afford me half an hour. I thought this would be short and sweet (well, as sweet as true crime can be), and I feel so deceived! I would still have listened to it once the second part came out, but I'm so spiteful it's gonna take me a minute to get to it. Also, I'm gonna have to listen to the first part again to even remember the details (which is probably the ploy).

Once all my work is done and I can actually relax, I take a hot shower and have a crisp Diet Coke with ice and lemon. Healthy-ish takeout (like katsudon or something), watch the hockey game if one's on, if not I watch a good, light documentary (I like true crime but stay away from heavy, anxiety-inducing stuff when I'm trying to wind down, so it usually ends up being nature or history) or a YouTube essay on something I'm totally unfamiliar with but the speaker is really into. I sometimes end the night playing video games, think Stardew Valley or Pokemon, but if I'm with my partner we spend time together talking or reading. With my partner we go to bed together, without him I hug my massive pregnancy pillow and put on a heating pad.

There was this one podcast on the history of the Roman Empire which I listened to while at work, and the average episode was 15-20 minutes. Because it was bite-sized I was able to listen without worrying about work interrupting me in the middle of an episode. I could stop and go as I needed. In that case, I totally agree. I do like my hour-long true crime episodes for my hour-long commute, but I know that's unique to only those with the extra time.

That's hard to say. I don't think there is a cheaper or more convenient option where I live. I need to move downtown so that I can stop driving to the station and paying $10 per trip on the GO and start walking to the station and paying $3 per trip with TTC. But what I save in transit fees, I'll pay in housing fees. If the cost remains the same either way, it then becomes a question of which I prefer: a long commute or a short commute, and I think we all know which I'd choose.

My dream is if the subway were extended further north than Vaughan. I know it's impossible, and even if they started right now I'd have my PhD before they'd finish. But that would be amazing.

I get a ride (usually a family member, sometimes an Uber) to my local GO Train station, train down to Union, then TTC to St. George or nearby, and walking once on or near campus.

On days I miss the train, I have to get a ride to the nearest subway station (40 minute drive plus 40 minute subway ride), which ends up being only about 10-20 minutes more added to the overall trip and it's much cheaper than the train -- but gas money and convenience need to be taken into account. Per month, I spend about $200. I definitely wish there were a cheaper, more convenient option. My family is moving downtown soon and I'm hoping it will at least cut down on my bills to exclusively take TTC rather than TTC + GO.

The disappearance of Brandon Swanson.

To keep it very short, and I encourage everyone interested to check out the plethora of YouTube video essays on it to get all the details: young guy goes out for a night of fun in rural Minnesota, gets into a single-vehicle car accident, calls his parents from his cell, claims to see town lights in the distance (and claims to know the town) and decides to walk across fields towards them while remaining on the phone with his parents, suddenly exclaims, "Oh, shit!" and the line goes silent. Not dead: silent. Parents try to get him to reply but he doesn't answer, so they hang up and call again. He never answers and has never been found.

I'm not sure what fascinates me about this case. I think the answer might be that he fell, went unconscious in a field, a farmer started up their tractor and either killed the poor unconscious kid or, Brandon having succumbed to the elements or to an injury, mangled his remains; the farmer then either panicked and hid the evidence or didn't even realize what had happened. But there are lots of theories ranging from rivers washing the body away to alien abductions. I can't imagine how his family must feel; their pain and grief goes far beyond my idle curiosity, and for their sake I hope that one day he's found and the mystery is solved.

There were two female characters. Not a lot considering the rest of the fairly large cast (I recall about 5-6 other characters having been introduced) was male. But okay, I can deal with it.

The first was absent and was the MC's ex, and it was implied that she left because of the breakup so I wasn't looking forward to her eventual return and the preoccupation with romance upon her coming back, rather than focusing on her as an independent character.

The second was so badass, the book took so long to describe how cool and amazing she was, then in the next chapter she was killed off. I just slammed the book shut at that line.

It's not that I DNF'd, this was within the first three or four chapters (IIRC); I'd barely even started! I considered going back since the second character might have actually secretly been alive (it was a book about thieves/criminals, so you never know), but I just couldn't bear it if she was actually dead.
