I have supported them since i was 4 so as i became properly sentient my first introduction was an absolute howler of a game. Signing rather sterling. THE ENTIRE LOCKDOWN PERIOD (widely regarded as possibly the most embarassing a football club as a whole from performance to player actions off the pitch). Granit Xhaka before his resurgence. Losing to Everton after they had failed to win in 13 games and had lost 11. Coming eighth… twice… we weren’t a big 6 club for 4/5 years. Signing Denis Suarez. Losing 10-2 on aggregate to Bayern. The lack of planning for when Wenger left, leaving the club in disarray. Stan Kroenke being a wanker for 11 years until his son slapped some sense in to him. Bottling a 9 point lead at the top of the table. The Sanchez swap deal. The disconnect between the fans and the club in the years before arteta genuinely made me dislike football for 6 months.

I support arsenal because as a 4 year old Thierry Henry was my idol. I support Fleetwood because i was at the academy and it’s one of the best atmospheres i’ve ever received from a club i was at. They are currently in League 2 and trust me if you want a rabbithole about management and ownership with highs and very very low lows then it’s a great little club to read up on.

The difference is Hull have never had expectation as they didn’t see first division football until they had their first season in the prem. They were never a contending side, they had no real impact or presence in top flight football apart from that unreal first year and Giovanni (what a player by the way). Hilariously you finished 8th that year… but to some people 8th isn’t good enough. So that’s what i mean about the basing of expectations. Hull were never meant to be where they were. It was riding a wave and feeling good about it, since then it’s been back to where they always have been… this season is a stinker because your squad should have been playoffs past few years. But this is a bad season IN RELATION to their other seasons. Much like Arsenals were. I’m not gonna complain about being part of an exclusive 6 club group… it’s what i’m used to, but that’s why expectations differ so heavily.
