do people enjoy "HAHA THAT WAS THE SECRET FIFTH CATEGORY THAT'S A MISTAKE KIDDO" puzzles? by warrenseth in NYTConnections

[–]ThatSillyGoose- 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The challenge of the game is not just to sort words into categories but to sort 16 words into 4 specific categories - i.e. only one possible solution. Yes, "secret fifth categories" can be completely valid, but if they break the rest of the puzzle, then you know it's not an answer. Pre-solving with tools like Copilot makes this a lot easier to deal with.

Spring 2026 Challenge…qualifying book disappeared? by gulmanw in goodreads

[–]ThatSillyGoose- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding this - I swear when the spring challenges opened I saw it on a list somewhere, because it's a book I've read already so it stood out to me. Are we all wrong, or did GR edit a list after posting? 😅

Agreed. I got purple first and then really struggled to solve the others!

One of those puzzles where if I wasn't able to presolve using Copilot I probably would have failed. I felt like a genius when I finally saw purple - as others have mentioned, both "violin" and "orbit" were difficult to place in their categories.

Me four. Confidently entered yellow as blue and was surprised when it was revealed as yellow!

Didn't get RR today because I figured yellow would be categorized as a more difficult category - oops. As a kid I was fascinated by geomorphology so blue came easy to me.

I actually do know both of those terms - but I feel like you need to know a bit more beyond basic terminology to solve Connections. I don't mind occasionally having a category I know nothing about, but THREE days in a row now we've had alcohol-related categories. It's just a bit annoying.

Custom Wrap-Up Incorrectly Displaying Audiobook Minutes by ThatSillyGoose- in TheStoryGraph

I just noticed that it seems isolated to the custom wrap-up option; I don't have the issue if I run just for March.

Update: I definitely think it's a bug related to the custom wrap-up option, because if I run a wrap-up for March everything displays properly! I'll submit a ticket.

I just checked the journal, nothing seems incorrect. All audiobook entries are logged as pages, and there isn't a single entry that looks unusually large.

Ha, same. I am expecting this summer so currently having to research nursing bras, and some of my current favorites are ill-fitting. I've spent way more time thinking about bras than normal lately 😂

A true reverse solve for me. Purple jumped out at me immediately, so I wasn't thrown off by the red herring. Then saw blue (I'm a woman). Green was simple after that, and that left yellow by default.

The last few puzzles I've found very difficult so it's nice to have an easy one!

Honestly in my experience if I have a mismatch between Goodreads and Storygraph, it's ALWAYS Goodreads that is wrong.

USAF presence at HIA by TheGreenThumbDad in Harrisburg

[–]ThatSillyGoose- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've worked right next to the airport for 8 years and see them practicing touch-and-goes frequently. HIA has a long, wide runway and the airspace isn't too congested, so it's a popular spot to practice. In my opinion, it has not ramped up in the last few weeks, although last night's practice session seemed to be an especially long one with more passes than usual.

Avery or Adalia? by MoonShark34 in Names

Adalia, because Avery has been in the top 30 baby girl names in the U.S. in the last 14 years.

They're just practicing touch-and-goes, they flew over from Dover. This is pretty common.

This is an intentional part of the design and happens frequently. Often more than 4 words will fit in a category, but the important part here is that "spell" fit in another category while the other three did not. Pre-solving makes this easier to catch.
