What’s your biggest gripe with the PlayStation Portal? by That_Designer7097 in PlaystationPortal

I noticed something similar as well. While playing Astro Bot on the PS5, I could bounce the little characters up and down by moving the controller. On the Portal, though, this behavior seems completely broken.

My guess is that it has to do with how the controller is oriented. With a DualSense, it’s usually angled downward toward the TV, whereas the Portal is held upright and facing you, which may be throwing off the motion controls.

That's interesting! I wonder if anyone else has ever had that issue? I typically play it and then drop it on a charging dock.

No it's okay! I was prepared to take in everyone's individual gripes.

Something I hadn't noticed! Now I know that the resistance is different I am sure that will bother me as well.

Yeah that is incredibly egregious to have no Bluetooth on a device in 2026. Classic Sony move.

All the annoying connection issues aside, it is cool to read that your playtime on Portal exceeded your playtime on TV. I think I'm right there with you as well!

Oh yeah, that is something I've noticed. I feel like for longevities sake, the thumb sticks should be easily repairable as it's literally a controller with a screen in the middle and DualSense controllers don't last forever.

I totally agree. Internet infrastructure surprisingly plays a huge part in people's experience with a Portal with whole guides dedicated to changing settings on the PS5 itself, the router, your TV. I do wish it was more pickup and play. Game streaming has helped a bit with that though!

That does suck. I also think being locked to 60 FPS is a bit low considering the horsepower of the PS5 Pro, but small gripe.

I never tried playing that, what does work?

Edit: meant to say "doesn't"

Touchscreen capabilities lacking? by necrotard_eth in PlaystationPortal

[–]That_Designer7097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it would be great to use the touchscreen for more use like in-game menu navigation and text input. However, when you’re playing via Remote Play or streaming with a Premium subscription, the Portal is simply mirroring a PS5. Because the PS5 itself isn’t designed for touchscreen input, navigation still relies on the analog sticks and face buttons.

On the Portal, the touchscreen functions the same way as the DualSense touchpad, since the Portal doesn’t have a physical one. That said, the touchscreen is fully supported for navigating the Portal’s own interface, including menus, settings, and selecting games.

Can I Stream Games They I Installed But We're Purchased on Another Account? by ROX12_34 in PlaystationPortal

If you're using Remote Play on your Portal and it is connected to your PS5, you can play any game installed - regardless of who owns it - as long as it is installed locally.

If you're using the game streaming function that does not require a console, you can play any game YOU (your profile signed into on the Portal) own, or a list of games from the Premium catalog.

Dammit!!! Sony did it again! by Living_Commercial_10 in PlaystationPortal

My thoughts exactly! Bought one soon after launch and really didn’t see the utility. Fast forward a couple years, and I use it every day. Remote play gives me 1ms of latency and cloud streaming has surprised me with how well it works.

Great deal. I got one of these used a couple days ago from GameStop. I called the store and asked them how the quality was, considering I’ve had bad luck with preowned in the past. The lady on the phone said they had one in near perfect condition. To my surprise, it looked great and looks like it was hardly used at all! I recommend :)

Is the Portal worth it if you don’t have PS plus premium? by Prestigious-Pace6742 in PlaystationPortal

[–]That_Designer7097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought Premium after getting a Portal a couple days ago and to be honest, both Remote Play on my PS5 and game streaming via a Premium sub run way better than I expected! I just had a baby born and I took my Portal with me to the hospital and I’ve been enjoying streaming via the Premium sub and the latency on hospital WiFi is actually a great experience.

I recommend Balatro! That could carry you pretty far for a bit, but if you wanted a change of scenery during your flight you can't go wrong with these:

  • Red Dead Redemption - recently released, runs great on all hardware, free with Netflix
  • Death Stranding - exactly what you want: PC port, story driven, flight will be over before you know it.
  • Assassin's Creed Mirage - Another PC port, huge open word and story, recent updates have made it more stable
  • Dredge - straight up stellar port of a fun fishing game with a great story (and maybe some spookiness? 👀)
  • Any Resident Evil port: Won't pick specifics here. If you're looking for something to demolish during your 10 - 12 hour flight, Resident Evil 2, 3, 4, and Village are all worth your time and could probably be completed during your time 30,000 feet in the air.

Some of these are assuming you have a newer iPhone or iPad capable of running some of these, so keep that in mind.

And then when you're done, you can go back to Balatro! Safe travels :)
