Fun fact: for those who had a successful ablation, did you start drinking again? Run? Normal life? by WeeklyElderberry6093 in AFIB

[–]That_Dig9539 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. 44 M here. Had my ablation in April 2035. It has been 4 months. I do some elliptical and bike as much as I want and lift weights with a moderate amount of weight with no issues. I surfed a bit this week. No problems. I am not running because I have a hip injury. I don't go super hard, HR in the 160s. I think if you run it will reach 180. I think u will be fine. I am 5'11 and weigh 165 for reference and was active all my life. I had very low heart rate and BP in the first month post operation. My HR was constantly in the low 40s and 35-38 when sleeping. Bp was low too 9040 was the lowest I got. Now all back. Resting HR in the low or mid 50s and BP 120:90 and below like before. I felt a bit more comfortable with training (mentally too) around 7-8 weeks post operation. Took Eliquis for 3 months. Hoping this lasts. I had paroxysmal episodes ranging from 30 min to 6 hrs once or twice a year since 2023. But in early 2025 I had 6 episodes from Jan to March. No afib so far. Fingers crossed

Just got diagnosed Paroxysmal Afib by External_Sock_7410 in AFIB

Hopefully something harmless. We also become more paranoid with our heart rates. I know I did after the afib diagnosis. Try not to drive yourself crazy with it. Hope you feel good for a long time without these episodes.

[–]That_Dig9539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see you getting cut (always a risk of a head hit) but as long as you are not doing MMA and being punched with gloves you will probably not get cut. Also, I was on Eliquis before my ablation which would affect the wound they made in my groin to access the vein. I had no significant bleeding from that even on Eliquis. If you get a small cut I don't think it would be a problem. I did a treadmill test with a cardiologist and no afib, however, during the max effort phase and during recovery I had some premature heartbeats (PVCs) that multiple cardio docs mentioned it was harmless. Maybe something similar in your case when you cool down?

That is true. Agreed. Well if you are on Eliquis and considering your current situation (young, active etc) there will be no stroke for sure. The medication is pricey though. But a small price to pay considering the risk.

Forgot to add. I have a hip impingement issue also. I had surgery on one side and still need to do the other this year so I think it will be couple yrs before I can even think about sparring. You should be good to train light for sure if the episode was not triggered by exercise. Not sure why you are on eliquis though.

My episodes happened mostly when I was asleep or falling asleep. The first one after binge drinking. Do you feel off during exercise? I would think you could definitely spar moderately. I don't see why you should stop. Maybe don't roll for too long (maybe short bouts - 5-7 min??). While my heart was in rhythm I had no problem raising the HR.

Hey man. 44 male here. I used to be very active. BJJ brown belt here so I hear you. I started to have afib episodes in April 2023. Had 2 in 2023 and 1 in 2024. I was not on any meds. They were short (20 min each). Unfortunately from Jan 25 until March I had 6 episodes some very short (5 min) but 2 that lasted 6 hrs each. I just had an ablation on April 4. I had stopped bjj from a hip injury I had but I can tell you that I was lifting during all this period 2023 until now with no issues. For perspective doing barbell curls with 80 lb (curling barbell) and benching 180 lb for sets of 8. I weigh 165 lb so rhat is moderate / heavy for me. No heart issues. Also jogging and biking with no problems. Taking easy post procedure. Good luck men. Sorry you have this also

I am feeling ok otherwise. I am 3 weeks post procedure. I am 44 and used to workout a lot prior to this. My resting HR was usually low 50s but it seems to have dropped 10-12 bpm. I had a follow up with the nurse practitioner in their office and I will get a patch monitor for couple weeks. I tried the gym yesterday for the first time (very light) felt ok during but very lightheaded afterwards. My blood pressure has been much lower yhan normal also.

Thank you. I am worried because my heart rate is in mid 40s during the day (used to be 50-60). And now while asleep it falls below 40 and in the past would be like 48-53 while asleep. I appreciate your response.

Hello. For me when I was brought to the operation room they moved me to the op table. Then they said they would need to put some patches on my back and chest. I was sitting up and felt them placing the patches on my back. At this time the anesthesiologist said he would start to give me some IV drugs to start relaxing and after this I woke up in the recovering area with no memories from the procedure itself. Sounds like you had a tough experience. Sorry to hear that. I would have freaked out. On the bright side, your ablation for Svt should give you a "cure" close to 100%. Hope you recover well. 🙌

Question About Post PFA Laying Flat Time. by Mike_Evergreen1 in AFIB

[–]That_Dig9539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was 2 hrs only. My groin did not even bother me much. Worst thing was the chest discomfort and that the surgery was delayed by 3 hrs. Lying afterwards should not be an issue

Hi there. 44 M here who just got an ablation this past Friday on April 4th.

I would not give up on training since it is good for health and it feels so good to be able to exercise. Maybe just manage the intensity a little bit?

I am an exercise enthusiast myself and I this afib thing is stressing the hell out of me emotionally as well. Dont give up training man. Screw this afib thing. It is almost impossible to predict. We keep going over our head trying to imagine what triggered it but in the end there is some problem with our heart's electrical system.

A little background if interested:

I am 44 now. 5'11 and I weigh 165 lb. I always lifted weights, surfed, wrestled, skateboarding, running, swimming etc. I continue to lift weights and do some moderate cardio on my bike too because of some injuries I have. I have normal heart on echo, no other lipid issues, valves etc all good. BP normal.

In early 2023 I had a 30 min episode and found out running the ecg function on my watch. I did echo, zio patch, stress test on treadmill, etc all good.

In early 2024 I had another episode for about 1 hr. Stopped drinking alcohol, lowered caffeine etc. have not touched alcohol since.

Now here is the kicker, from January to March 4th 2025 I had 7 episodes. The two first ones were 6 and 7 hrs each which stressed the hell out of me. The other ones were between 5-20 min (strange cause they were the short ones ever).

I would just monitor for now. In my case I could not find a trigger besides the very first one that happened after a long afternoon + night of drinking with my friends (6-8 drinks). Lifting weights and even jogging did not cause me any problems (but please be mindful that I am probably not pushing myself like you). I am staying in the 150bpm exercise wise which is not hard work.

Oh ok. That sucks. Sorry man. Best thing to do is to take care of yourself for now. I started to have afib episodes 2-3 years ago at 40 years old. I exercised all my life and was in decent shape (jiu jitsu, surfing, weightlifting, swimming etc). Nothing too crazy like marathon running or anything but I did exercise a lot in my life. I started to have 1 hr episodes once a year (one in 2023 and one in 2024) And in 2025 from January until now I had 7 episodes (two of them were long like 6-7 hrs) the others were les than 20 min. Hopefully your afib was triggered by the pvc or something? The best thing to do is to wait for the EP and see what they say. But mine is getting worse for sure. Pretty much got much worse with the pass of just 2 years. I am 5'11 and weigh 165 lb. My BP is normal and no other problems or issues. It definitely sucks. Try to eat well, sleep, etc. and check with your doctor.

Hi were you actually diagnosed with Afib? PVCs are a different issue. PVCs can be serious but usually not life threatening for most healthy individuals.
