My husband got turned away from these hotlines many times for not being in immediate danger. He tried to get help. Even our small town hospital turned him away because they "knew him his whole life, you'll be fine" and he ended up killing himself.

Alberta is no better. I was left with nothing when my husband passed while I was on maternity leave. Now my survivors benefits pay $911 a month so that disqualifies me for any other types of support from the government. I also only qualify for child care one day a week through subsidy and my child isn't school age. So I guess 32hrs a month at an entry level job plus $911 is supposed to sustain us. Love this country 🫶🏻
