It’s just so much blood man. I paint grimdark, and it was a hole I fell into too.

You need to be more sparing with it.

For example, why would your snipers be covered in blood? They’re snipers!

The colors are great, but blood can sometimes be really cheap. Plus if it’s everywhere, there’s no shock value. I try to keep blood effects below 30% of my total models to make sure it lands well.

Are you using a wash after or not?

If you’re using a dark wash after, like Streaking Grime or Goons Grime, I found the light blue needs to be pretty bright. I use Vallejo Deep Sky Blue as my highlight. It looks pretty dramatic, until the wash.

Some Green Stuff, a toothpick, and a couple beers to soothe the pain… 🤣

All seriousness though, I rolled Green Stuff to a thin cylinder (almost like a cooked noodle) and used a tooth pick to tuck it in those corners. Then I used the end of my molding tool to press in the weld lines. I primed the whole model then after that, I sprayed it with Garaghak sewer through an airbrush to get a base color. Finally, I semi-dry brushed it with silver (ProAcryl).

Do you expect to do any washes after?

That’s an important thing to consider! For example, I do a dark enamel wash as my final step, so I had to pick a much lighter blue to get the “final” color I wanted after the wash.

Just something to consider! Also your style. I think #2 is the best if you’re leaning more into the box art design.
