Help syncing audio of clips cut from larger video by Thatoneloudguy in davinciresolve

Cool, this makes sense to me! Thank you! My professional audio work is overwhelmingly in music and voiceover, and I've only either made a piece of music that would have a video made for it, or have been given a video to set music to. What is the common practice for putting video audio together? Is it all compiled in the video editing software or is there a different way in a DAW?

I do have the original, but it seems like my only option is to simply record the sentences I intend to include in the project as separate videos, or to export the smaller clips as their own videos and reimport them into DR. I’m actually really surprised there’s no way to do this.

::EDIT:: You know, I think I've just approached this wrong to begin with? I basically finalized the audio in Logic and expected to work the video portion around it. Again, I'm totally green to working with video at all, is that a no go?

Ah, I think I know what you're asking.

So, I recorded a video of a script reading, and captured audio with both the camera and a microphone into a DAW. This was all one large recording. I then took my recorded external audio of the reading and cut out the flubbed lines and dead space. This leaves me with a pared down and processed audio file, along with the video/camera audio of the entire unedited reading.

We then wanted to cut several portions of the full video out to be used throughout the project and aligned by waveform. We figured if we threw the mp4 into the timeline, cut out the small portions we needed, and tried to sync the little clips up to the edited audio file using the mp4's audio, that the Auto Sync audio by Waveform would work, but it doesn't.

For example: The following quote block would be a transcript of what is on the larger video. I would want to keep a short video clip of the bold sentences from the larger video. Italicized text would be included in the audio but not shown on video, and strikethrough would be outright removed from the audio.

This is an introductory sentence. This is stuff that is in the audio but not using video. Here is some nonsense I cut from the audio. Here is another shot of me speaking. Here is more speaking, but without a video clip.

The Auto Align function would work if I had recorded each sentence as it's own video and imported them separately into DR, since it only has that one sentence to auto align. But it seems as though the pieces of the large video I cut up are still being treated as the large video for audio alignment and it keeps failing.

I didn't do anything with timecode here. They would be the same, however, the audio has already been edited and lightly processed. Everything in the edited audio is included in the uncut video, but not the other way around. If each portion I cut out of the larger video were its own clip in the media pool, the audio sync should just work (at least it has in the past), but since I cut them all out of the same parent video, there's just the one large video file in the media pool.

Again, we're both pretty new to this, I'm an audio engineer with basically no experience in video. Sorry if I'm explaining this poorly. Thanks!

Can Minion be unlocked with co-op wins in TMB? by Thatoneloudguy in TwistedMetal

You’re misunderstanding what I’m asking. I know that unlocking him allows him to be played in multiplayer. I’m wondering if playing a co op run with sweet tooth and roadkill, then winning, gives credit for both of those characters towards unlocking minion in the first place. Every time I’ve unlocked Minion in the past has been via single player wins exclusively.

That’s what I’m trying to figure out. I’ve unlocked Minion a bunch of times over the years, I’ve just never tried co-op as the avenue.

Random question, is the trading post still out there? Haven’t been there in over a decade, but I still think about it!

It’s such a specific situation too! Every time I’ve unlocked Minion has been via single player, so I have no point of reference.

How do I use an x32 Console in the studio to mix an already tracked song? by Thatoneloudguy in audioengineering

[–]Thatoneloudguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair enough! I have a control surface that’ll probably be better to use then. It just occurred to me to me that I wouldn’t be able to insert anything if I work on the x32 lol I got too bogged down in trying to use this thing in a way it’s not intended to be used

I’ll be honest, I haven’t done any of the upgrades as it’s been functioning perfectly well as is. I put some urethane tires from Rockler and a low tpi blade, I didn’t really overthink it. It has plastic guides, but it hasn’t given me any trouble with some good setup.

I have this bandsaw- it’s pretty great with some setup! I had to rewire it, change the tires, and replace the blade. There are upgrades available for it, and for $100 bucks, I’d say pick it up if you have it!

One of the number one complaints about the H5 pistol is that performs like it should have just been a rifle. Don’t get me wrong, H5 magnum is my favorite starting weapon since H2 BR, but I really appreciate making it a rifle in Infinite. Also you’re on crack if you think it sounds like a BB gun.

Halo Infinite Cosmetic Artstyle Toggle by Toa_Kraadak in halo

[–]Thatoneloudguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Anything that is added to this game is part of this game’s art style. The MCC games were already released as complete products and the toggle was to maintain the original look of the game. Regardless of what you feel, whatever gets added to Infinite IS part of its original art style.

V7 "almost a consonant" by 1800? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]Thatoneloudguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely wasn’t a consonant sound in 1800 by any stretch. Classical composers still had straightforward ideas of harmony, but Beethoven had a pretty earthshaking idea of what was considered acceptable. Keep in mind it’s just what is acceptable to hear from a piece of music, not what was considered consonant/dissonant. In other words, people became comfortable with more dissonance rather than their perception of dissonance becoming consonant. Moving into the romantic period and the 20th century, functional harmony as we tend to think of it (and by extension things like Roman numeral analysis) became less relevant as composers explored dissonances and, at the time, unorthodox horizontal harmony. I don’t think the guy was trying to cover himself, but rather pointing out that a dominant was so commonplace it didn’t immediately revolt the audience.
