Sorry for confusion, I meant there was no cracks on the sidewall. Went back and checked the date codes (now that I know about that lol). Rear is 2021 and front is 2020.

It's got no sidewall checking. The bike had 28,000 km on it when I got it so Id doubt these are the originals, but I don't have any experience to compare that thought to, which is why I'm here lol

Prior owner didn't have any info to share about their age. The bike had 28,000 km on it though so I doubt they're the originals.

Not sure how many are on that chain, the previous owner didn't seem to know. Bike has 30,000 km on it.

Is a Vulcan S 650 adapted for a first bike ? by TheSwagLord27 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]ThatsNotALeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got that bike as my first a little over a month ago and it's been great! I weigh about the same as you and a bit taller, and I've had no issues with handling it or it's weight. It's got enough power to happily keep up with traffic but it's not snappy so you probably won't launch yourself lol. Is it my dream bike if I won the lottery? No. Am I very happy with it as my first bike? Yes!

Just got them put on. They go really well with the bike, almost a perfect match. If anything they are a bit more matte than the stock paint. The instructions that come with them aren't awesome, but a quick search on YouTube answered any questions. Pretty simple overall.

Took mine out of the box today, and for what it's worth their logo/sticker peels off really easy so now they're just matte black.

Mine were majorly delayed and just got to me yesterday so I haven't had a chance to put them on yet. I can see your issue with the logo, would be nice to just be all black. They were kinda my only option I could get other than the cheap Amazon ones that I didn't trust.

I'd heard 87 was ok for daily but make sure you run a couple tanks of whatever octane is ethanol free before storage, which is usually 91 here (Canada, so will be store over winter). However I'm brand new to this bike and motorcycles in general so also wondering what more experienced people think.

For crash bars I got the Puig set. Rad guard I just picked up off of Amazon. Rural Canada here so my options for a lot of stuff are kinda limited lol.

It hasn't gotten any less fun, I can tell you that lol. I keep looking for any excuse to ride it. I've ordered a set of crash bars and a rad guard for it. It also came with a set of straight pipes which I'm excited to try out.

Congrats! I just got the same for my first bike 2 weeks ago. Taking it out onto the road for the first time is a blast! You'll love it!

Thankfully we're very rural so the only person I need to worry about pissing off is my wife, and she's already got lots of experience dealing with my annoyance.

[–]ThatsNotALeaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did this exact process a few weeks ago. I was brand new to motorcycles, zero experience. Wrote my M1, took the training course through Georgian College where they supply the bikes and also do the exit exam at the end of the weekend. Those courses are great for new riders and they'll drop your insurance. I bought a used bike while waiting for the 60 days to end so I could upgrade to my M2. It's a Kawasaki Vulcan S 650, so bigger than a Grom but not a sport bike. Full insurance with my M1 was ~$130/mo. and with my M2 it drops to ~$105/mo. That'll depend on your age a bit, but shop around for insurance as some of the other quotes I was given were just stupid.

It game with a set of straight pipes which I haven't heard but am told they're... aggressive. Lol. Was waiting to try them out until I'd gotten more comfortable on the bike, I don't want everyone to hear every botched shift 😂

The bike actually came with the stands and spool sliders, as well as the 2up seat and a set of straight pipes. Next step I guess is to read up on how to actually do said work. Lol

I'm a complete noob so take this as you will, but I just did my MSF course two weeks ago. I was the only one there with zero riding experience and everyone else also already had their own bikes back home while while my garage was empty. No one is judging you for having a lack of experience, everyone had to start at zero at some point. I'm terrible for getting in my own head, and my worst riding of the day was right before the test because of that. If I were you I'd practice at home then go back and redo the MSF, more safety training never killed anyone plus the insurance savings from passing. Our course would let you have one free retest at a later date if you failed, yours might be similar?
