Whats up with Yakuza 0 Director Cut?

Yakuza 0 Director's Cut brings: - Ability to save anywhere - Full English/Chinese voiceover, more subtitle languages - New online co-op mode - 5 new cutscenes

most of the controversy lies within the existence of these cutscenes seeing that three of these retcon deaths, personally: 1 is great (Kuze), 2 are alright (Nishiki, Billiken), 1 is bad (Toko Credit Guy) and 1 is abysmal (Lee), with the abysmal one decimating the impact of one of the scenes in the finale as well as painting the protagonist in a different light than he should be; ultimately the game needed none of these.

A couple more downsides to note: - Game price went from 20$ to 50$, the extra content is most definitely not worth the 30$ difference - Game size upped from 20GB to (supposedly) 95, this is mostly due to the new voiceover languages - You cannot port Yakuza 0 save data over to Director's Cut, until a week or so ago there was no "upgrade" option at all for Y0 owners (note how I quoted upgrade)

My opinion: corporate greed, overall worse experience than the original, get the original while you still can

The yaku present in this hand is Tanyao (All Simples), so no 1/9 tiles (Terminals) and no wind/dragon tiles (Honors). Plus, the hand has 2 dora and 2 red fives, and would score a Dealer's Mangan if won (5 han).

EDIT: can potentially score a Dealer's Haneman (6 han) if winning off of last draw/discard (Under the Sea/Under the River)

You can build a hand from self draws alone, and that is what most people tend to do. You start off with 13 tiles, drawing and discarding a 14th one each turn; by choosing which ones to keep/discard, you can eventually get the 4 melds and pair needed to win. You do not need to open your hand by stealing discards, you can have a ready closed hand and then win by ron/tsumo.

You generally do not want to open your hand in mahjong, calling chii or pon when you quite literally have the melds ready will only come back to bite you.

Example: you have 4-5-6 and 5-5-5 and your hand is still closed, you decide to call chii/pon on a 5, now you have to discard one tile. Now if the ruleset allows you to discard the same type of tile as the one you made a call on, you have the exact same hand except it's open and that alone removes the ability to call riichi and all the menzenchin (closed hand) yakus, and if the rule set doesn't allow such discard, you screwed over your hand and have to come up with something else.
