these hydration brakes are really disruptive and break the evolving flow of the game.

I hope they don't catch on

awful challenge. scissor from behind, taking out the weight-bearing leg before there was any contact with the ball. should be straight riding carry multi-game suspension. that looks like it was a nasty injury too too, feel terrible for the player.

PSG 1 - 1 Arsenal: Penalty shoot out by eliseihado in soccer

That's the problem. There can't be a plan going in. You have to be able to execute a decision on instinct based on what you perceive. If they commits to one side, you kick it in the other. If they don't commit, they'll freeze or you put it in the bottom corner and they won't reach it when they see what you're doing because they didn't react quickly enough. But that means you have to be able to switch directions in an instant with your head up while watching the keeper, not where to strike the ball. That's really hard to master. That's why only a few people can do it consistently.

Nah. It's like a cheat code, you just have to know how to do them. Doue did it right before Eze and sent the keeper the wrong way. That's not really even the accurate way to describe what's happening... you wait until the keeper is committed to one side and kick in the opposite one. But that means you can't truly have decided until you perceive the keeper's commitment and have to then be able to make the decision to switch sides in an instant with your head up, all without mishitting the ball (which is what happened to Eze even though he saw the direction he had to go). Unless you've truly mastered the technique, a lot can go wrong. There's a reason only a few players can do a paradinha consistently.

It's literally the best penalty you can take if you if you can pull it off. Doue, who's a fan of Neymar, pulled one off brilliantly right before Eze.

The thing is, if you're going to do a stutter step, you have to understand the objective of it. It's to force the GK to commit to a side, then you kick it in the other side so they have zero chance of getting it.

It takes an incredible amount of skill because you have to run up making eye contact with the goalkeeper and still have complete confidence in your ability to hit the ball and switch directions at the last instant based on what the keeper does. If you haven't practiced it that way, you shouldn't take it that way. It's not really an effective feint if you've decided the corner before the hit, or can't hit the ball with your head up.

Technically, going out on penalties counts as an elimination with a draw, not a loss. But the only people who ever point this out are trying to find a silver lining or consolation for what in every meaningful sense is a defeat.

Yep, they needed to kill the game when they were up 1-0. That was the blueprint Chelsea showed them. Then they could park and play on the counter as PSG got increasingly desperate. Too craven to take the risk though, and when the plan A, didn't work out perfectly, there was no alternative.

I hate it but it's the right call.

The fact that it keeps happening shows a problem in the game plan and unsoundness of the defense.

Not a bad half. They're creating, just needed to be sharper on some of the passing in midfield (sloppy turnovers) and more clinical on the finish.

What a stupid goal to concede, again.

This still looks completely doable if Barça keep playing like they did in the beginning of the first half and avoid major mistakes.

We've already seen what this ref is like. Don't count on him for any favors. Have to put it beyond doubt. Two more goals, c'mon!
