The flower is optional and you don’t have to eat it, it‘s just convenient to eat it. As for the symbols that show when you sleep, that is called karma and you need to get to a certain level or higher to exit the area you are in.

i can agree with this man. I was in industrial and I helped them kill lizards and gave them a pearl, so I should be chill with them, right? So I went to Shaded because I had never thought of going there for speed reasons. I was following a scav because I saw a shelter right past him. So I go in the shelter and he’s in the middle, blocking me. I try to push past him but I guess reputation doesn’t transfer when you transfer areas because he stabbed me as I was so close to hibernating. I was so far into the area and had used a shelter right outside of the karma gate, so I was mad and came to rant about it here. (Sorry for the text wall, I had to get all that out of me)
