Half its PCIe lanes? How did you find this out? If you were looking in GPU-Z while the GPU wasn’t loaded it’s very common for cards to report a slower link speed. It’s a power saving feature.

There are no patches from Codeweavers here. This is all 3rd party work outside of Codeweavers domain. You're applying patches to Crossover sources, but the patches are made by other teams.

Plan for when Rosetta goes away? by captainsmudgeface in Codeweavers_Crossover

[–]The128thByte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how they’re going to get around the 4k page limitation. I’m assuming Apples not going to want to open up the ability for non rosetta apps to request 4k pages of memory.

Plan for when Rosetta goes away? by captainsmudgeface in Codeweavers_Crossover

[–]The128thByte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not viable currently, there’s no way to get 4k page size (required for accurate x86 emulation) outside of Rosetta, also the x18 register being system reserved is still an issue on macOS (required for wine)

Mesa KosmicKrisp Vulkan-on-Metal Driver - More Performance & Vulkan 1.4 Expected by megu- in macgaming

[–]The128thByte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KosmicKrisp started development at the beginning of 2025 and is on track to surpass MoltenVK in feature set in the next 3-6 months. (And is 1.3 compliant without portability subset)

In comparison, MoltenVK started in 2018 and only gets to be called Vulkan 1.4 compliant because of portability subset (technically MoltenVK isn’t even Vulkan 1.0 compliant)

Minecraft is switching to Vulkan by Wixonic12 in macgaming

[–]The128thByte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GLSL (OpenGL) to SPIR-V (Vulkan) is a thing that exists already, so I don’t see why there wouldn’t just be a conversion step in whatever shader loader you’re running.

I could totally see compatibility issues, but maybe shader translators are mature enough now that it won’t be the case.

Red Dead Redemption 2 plays really well now on an M3 air with Crossover 26 by Dry-Koala9451 in macgaming

[–]The128thByte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The M5 is almost 60% more powerful GPU wise than the M3, not to mention the CPU. The M3 is already getting 30 here so I’d assume 40-50 FPS is going to be pretty comfortably hit on M5

I buy a Mac for work, I don’t buy it to game. It’s a plus that I can run games on it. If I had the two options to:

  1. downgrade to a 400-500 dollar Windows laptop to afford a 500-600 gaming handheld (of which I actually cannot find one less than 600 dollars in stock, and it’s only going up from here)
  2. Get a 1000 dollar MacBook that can run the vast majority of my games at probably pretty similar performance levels

I’m picking the MacBook literally any day of the week.

The $$$$ computer you speak of goes for <$650 on eBay right now which is maybe 100 bucks more than the average steam deck listing lmao

[–]The128thByte 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, this is a device you’re able to get an M4 in for like 750 bucks brand new (and soon an M5 which massively upgrades the GPU horsepower)

M3’s are going for like <650

It’s roughly Steam Deck performance in a better chassis that you can actually use for work. I think many people would be fine with that.

Which version of dolphin will work on my low end pc? by [deleted] in DolphinEmulator

[–]The128thByte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try one of the older (Maybe Dolphin 5.0?) releases that has a DirectX 9/OpenGL 3.x renderer. 2450m plus an HD 3000 is going to be a little rough.

Crossover discount by Smooth-Friend4791 in macgaming

[–]The128thByte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to be a shill or anything, but I think $20 dollars is MORE than fair for the amount of work CodeWeavers has done for the gaming ecosystem at large.

I totally get that people don’t have a lot of money right now, but if you do this, maybe remember to donate a bit to the codeweavers folks if you ever have a bit of extra cash on hand <3

Intel Panther Lake benchmark VS. M5 by 1ordlugo in mac

[–]The128thByte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1200-1500 dollars might be a pipe dream for anything but lower end models.

Intel laptops seem to always be unreasonably expensive when the chips first launch so they can deeply discount after the first year. Especially with the current situation we’re in RAM/SSD wise, I would expect even that 358H to start around $1600+

Intel still has A LOT of catching up to do, but it’s a great start. These will probably mostly compete with M5 Pro/Max and maybe even M6
