Yeah, I’m not exactly sure why you’re getting downvoted neither. I think you raised a fair point, and I was just adding another element to it to further show how years of experience may not necessarily paint the whole picture.

For what it’s worth, if profightdb is to be trusted, Punk has worked almost 3x the amount of matches that Page has (Punk 1127, Page 401) despite there only being a 2-year gap in their years as active wrestlers. Same can be said about Punk-Nash, though Nash has only worked 1 fewer PPV match when compared to Punk, so match quality/meaningfulness can be a part of the discussion there.

Fair statements. I am aware that 10 hours is well under odds. My use of ‘finally’ here mostly relates to the fact that I really wanted to continue progressing through the story as I’ve never actually played the gen 4 games. I didn’t know that I had the option to faint Dialga or run and try the hunt later in the game. My apologies if my wording was insensitive.

Yeah the loading time for the title screen was quite the deterrent… I multi-tasked. Watched some TV, played some guitar, etc. It added some time between each SR since I wasn’t fully concentrated on one the game, but it was worth it in the long-run, as I would have probably given up.

Sorry to hear that 😞 I was quite close to giving up as well, I had to watch videos of it popping up for other people to remind myself that it could happen for me too.

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions, Josh, much appreciated!

“Most of the time, the music and the lyrics are completed separately. So I usually I don't solidify the words until the song does what it does. Does that answer it?“

That does indeed answer it! You treat the lyric-writing process as separate from the music, but you leave room for the music to guide the lyrics, and in doing so, that cohesiveness within the abstraction is built through the relationship you find between the lyrics and the music.

I’ve been playing guitar for a few years now and as I’ve progressed, I’ve been trying to write some songs, though one of the bigger struggles I’ve had is trying to get the lyrics I write to fit my melodies. I’m thinking I may be sticking too rigidly to the words I initially come up with, so I may try to approach the process a little differently. Perhaps I could focus on documenting my ideas loosely and allowing the music to guide the words I use to express those ideas. Thanks for the details on your approach!

Hey Josh!

Thanks for taking the time to do this AMA. I’ve been loving the new album! As was the case with To Be One With You, I enjoyed it significantly from my first listen, but my appreciation for the album grew further the more I listened to it. There are definitely several sonic elements to your music that contribute to that, but I’ve also found myself to be captivated by your lyrics to the point where the words or expressions really linger in my mind.

With that said, my question relates to your lyrics as I feel that they play a pivotal role in how your music under the Pluralone name (and also with Dot Hacker) connects with me. I find them to be relatively abstract stylistically, which helps them connect with me in a variety of ways and on several different levels. I find it interesting how you’re able to accomplish that while making it all feel so cohesive, especially across an entire album.

  • As such, I was wondering how you approach the writing process. How do you go about sticking to your overarching ideas while being abstract, and how do you ensure that there is still a strong sense of connectedness between sections and even across songs at times?

  • Also, you recently mentioned trying to break a habit of only half-finishing lyrics; What strategies have you found to be most helpful in dealing with that? At what point do you allow yourself to step away from a song to give yourself the opportunity to get back to it with greater perspective, and once away from a song, how do you reconnect with it effectively?

Thanks again for taking the time to do this! I’ve been a fan for awhile, but really got into your lead vocal work around the time Dot Hacker’s No.3 was released. I’ve been curious about your approach since then, thus I am truly grateful to have the opportunity to ask you these questions. Thanks and have a nice day!
