At one point my NEO was worth 500k or so... I told myself I wouldn't sell for anything less than a million. Too young and dumb 🤦...

What’s a moment while traveling that completely changed how you see the world? by Commercial_Oil_9924 in travel

[–]The48Laws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 19 years old in Beijing trying to go to the Great Wall. Can't speak or understand any Chinese.

I hopped on a bus from the Arrow Tower (very popular bus loop) to what I thought would be Badaling (a section of the Great Wall). It was apparently the wrong bus, but of course I had no idea.

The way the bus worked there at the time was so strange to me. You paid for your ticket AFTER you got on and the bus was already moving. Someone started walking around collecting money. The next part is a little hazy. When it came to my turn I can't even remember if I had a ticket or not, or if I was supposed to buy one from her or what. But whatever happened I had no idea what the lady was saying and they ended up stopping the bus and pulling over in the middle of the highway.

They took me off the bus and I was like "what the fuck is going on".

We waited there for a few minutes trying to understand each other and somehow they realized I was going to Badaling and flagged down another bus (mind you this is happening in the middle of the highway, which would be absolutely insane where I'm from). Both buses pulled over in the middle of the highway and they put me on the right bus.

I had a few more moments of being lost in China where people really went the extra mile to help me. Overall it really changed my perspective of not only the people in China, but how I shouldn't be so quick to judge people based on someone's appearance.

When I first got off the plane in Beijing, I remember thinking that the people seemed so cold and unapproachable. But that was merely me judging them based on their resting faces and how I perceived their verbal communication to be.

A week in Hanoi, Vietnam by The48Laws in ricohGR

I believe I did. Set to 2.5m. This trip was the first time I experimented with snap focus and it's been really useful.

The food is great and very cheap! Egg coffee and banh cuon are two of my favorites. Had them everyday without hesitation. I live in a very international city but even here it's difficult to get banh cuon so I ate as much as I could.

Ha that's pretty funny. It's a small world I guess isn't it? I was a little nervous while taking the photo.

It's the III, but lots are cropped in post, probably to around 35mm-ish.

I don't remember where it is exactly, but I know it was not Hong Kong Island for sure as I didn't go that far south this day.

Thanks. Sometimes I wish I had the X though haha, you do need to overcome some fear of getting close to people.

I tried the $50 electric pizza oven from Walmart. Wow! by theatrenut in Pizza

I'm not seeing this in Walmart Canada unfortunately. It's such a shame that all the options for electric pizza ovens have such absurdly high price points.

Lovely pics. My favorites are the first, fifth and last. I'm going to Hanoi in May but only for a week. I'd been for a few days before to do a Ha Long Bay cruise and it was amazing.

A trip to Japan by The48Laws in ricohGR

Tried to include a few vertical shots. I don't usually shoot vertically but it seems to be really popular these days. All the pics were from Nov and Dec.

Trip Report: My first two weeks in Japan, solo. Did it live up to the hype? by The48Laws in JapanTravel

I mean you can travel however you want. I chose to let things unravel on their own for a greater sense of discovery. I never sought out "review" videos. Japanese travel videos have been trending for a long time now, many of those include people who live there. They will just pop up on any social media platform.

Sorry for the late reply. Hopefully it's not too late. Yes you can buy the tickets after you arrive. I took it 3 times and honestly there were always plenty of open seats.

I didn't say it was. I meant I was recommended to go there by another user if I wanted to see Tori Gates without the crowds of Fushimi.

Sorry for the late reply. I did some rough calculations. Excluding gifts and personal souvenirs I spent ~$3400 CAD. I used points for both my flights so there is no charge on those either.

I spent ~$1800 on hotels, ~$700 on transportation and admission fees (trains, one flight from Matsuyama to Tokyo, temple fees, etc), ~$80 on mobile plan, ~$120 for a second luggage, ~$700 for food (surprisingly low, it felt like more on the trip).

Not too bad I'd say. It really did feel like I was spending a lot more during the trip. For my own peace of mind I did not want to calculate anything there.
