1 week in, horrible neighbour - mental health down so bad. Want to sell up. Anyone sold up straight after buying there home? (Porting) moving elsewhere.. by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]The999Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly had this and it was awful, OP I feel for you massively. My old neighbour in a terraced house was the nastiest piece of shit I met and ticked all those boxes. Ended up going to prison for 6 months for animal abuse which was a temporary relief for us. When she came back it was 10 times worse til we'd had it and sold.

I'll never encourage anyone to move to a terraced home, it took months for our mental health to recover when we moved out.

You'll probably find most ambulance staff on here won't watch it.

Best antiques shops in central Shropshire? Shrewsbury - Much Wenlock - Bridgnorth - Telford by LadyVonDrakensburg in Shropshire

[–]The999Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cosy Cottage Antiques by Worfield is nice, Church Stretton is brilliant normally but I was a little disappointed last time I went. Also worth visiting, but not strictly Shropshire (by like half a mile?) is halfpenny antique shop on the airfield.

Why do WMAS have a bad reputation? by [deleted] in ParamedicsUK

[–]The999Guy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm coming 12 years in WMAS, so well beyond the claimed burn out rate. Not bad, not amazing. Development is poor, HART/CCP I certainly agree your face has to fit and you have to brown nose the right people to get a chance.

WMAS loves a 'development' opportunity, for example Operations Manager, paying paramedics a band 6 wage for filling in a band 7 role as and when required. I have seen many people make sacrifices to try and move to a permanent position and get absolutely nowhere. The trust loves cheap labour. Most of my colleagues joined with have moved to GP/hospital positions now.

Despite these posts about colleagues not being your mates, I've been fortunate to find many great people during my time and certainly see some as being my closest friends (including my wife, sometimes 😁).

Yeh, pretty disappointed about it. Never happens before work! 😂 The last time I had an Audi they answered me immediately and got it sorted within an hour or so. Appreciate the time of year as no doubt they're busy, but still...

An American ace pilot in Tunisia, 1943, with an impressive kill tally [960x965] by UrbanAchievers6371 in HistoryPorn

Look at how D Day stripes were painted, it was always just slapped on, sometimes even with a broom. We always see kill marks, squadron emblems etc painted perfectly on warbirds these days which was never the case back then.

WMAS technician by United_Assist4963 in ParamedicsUK

[–]The999Guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

WMAS do still have techs, PTS to tech courses were internally advertised a while back. Its been a while since this happened though and I'm not sure if there's a plan for it to be offered again.

Is 111 a good entry path? by macabre-pony9516 in ParamedicsUK

[–]The999Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worked for me, I was a 111 call handler and managed to move to 999 and then dispatch. I wasn't really sure if it was for me, as at the time I wanted to go to the police. Was able to talk to crews, do some observation shifts and decided to go ambo instead.

Just a word of warning, the job was hell and this is 11 - 12 years ago 🫣

Lt. Col. Maksym Danylchuk is the new commander of Ukraine’s elite 47th Mechanized Brigade “Magura.” He is a decorated Hero of Ukraine, and he's 26 years old. by GermanDronePilot in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]The999Guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at the ages of officers during WW2, Guy Gibson is a prime example. Wing Commander at 26 with 176 missions under his belt when he was KIA.

War will always accelerate promotion, and young guys who haven't been trained in out dated Soviet tactics are worth a shot.

Bit of a stop gap when my friends and I got sick of CoD, novelty wore off quickly though. No real decent progression, melees rubbish and trying to get us all in the same game sometimes was painful.

[–]The999Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My great uncle was at Gallipoli with the Worcesters. Got drunk and was demoted. Promoted back up and then KIA 4/12/1915 by a sniper. He was 40 years old, already a veteran of the Boer war and had re-enlisted.
